Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Should we trade Isaiah Thomas at the trade deadline?

He's been running and cleared for ball activity for like a month now at least
He hasn't even been cleared to jerk off yet. We will be lucky if he comes back before the playoffs!

I get this sneaking suspicion that if tomorrow was the NBA Finals, Isaiah Thomas would be out there without restriction.

With our depth, I support the bubble wrap approach. Even if he is close, let his body rest up.

I'm just saying, I know what kind of timelines have been given to the media, and I think a conservative timeline falls over a month before that.

You've speculated as much yourself.

It's just that I would not be shocked to be eating some turkey around Thanksgiving and watching Isaiah Thomas start for the Cavs.

That's my date. Return by Thanksgiving. And that's even with the team being conservative with him.

I hope you're right, but this smells like wishful thinking.

I agree, all of a sudden he went from permanently damaged goods, to he was going to be as good as new by January???

January was a carefully picked, cautious, pessimistic timeline.

I'd be slightly surprised if IT wasn't playing well before Christmas.

His rehab has been phenomenal. After he decided to forego surgery in the summer, there was a benchmark date in mid-September where he would get scans and his exact prognosis would be revealed. The trade and subsequent physical occurred about 3+ weeks before this date, hence the Cavs worry about the scans.

After the trade was finalized, IT was put into a brand new aggressive rehab program by our doctors and consulted hip specialists, with the same mid-September scan date to determine a timeline.

At that scan, it revealed that IT had healed significantly and could return as soon as some time in November. This is the same day he was cleared to run and begin basketball activities.

The Cavs wanted to be as cautious as possible with any public timeline in case of any possible setback (none have occurred thus far). So they kicked the optimistic/best case timeline of early/mid November down the road about 6-8 weeks and publicly announced January. They know for almost certain, like 98%, that he will be playing in January.

His rehab since has continued to go as well as it possibly can. He is privately telling people he could play today if it was a finals game and also has a personal goal of returning by Thanksgiving.

We'll see..but IT was never damaged goods. That's Boston media spin to justify Altman coaxing the beloved Brooklyn pick from Ainge.

Absolutely amazing stuff, IBWT. Thank you for sharing.

I wish people understood what happened to IT like you do.

The injury and the bone protrusion had nothing to do with the injury. IT was fallen on by a center and thus the tear. When doing scans for the injury it was discovered IT had a weird bone protrusion, but had never effected him before. Because they felt it didnt effect him in the past, he chose to skip the surgery and only concentrate on the injury from contact.

That said, I am still not a huge IT fan, so i am not here defending him, just saying the media spin on the injury is so off base it isnt even funny.

I agree 100%.

Like you said, Part of the reason he's had such a long recovery time is totally separate from the Labrum tear.

He had a few minor issues that happened when he hurt it with the impact play such as bone bruises, muscle strains, etc. All of which are relatively minor problems, but since they all happened at the same time....it was difficult to put a timeline on the Labrum until the bruises/muscles healed.

IT is basically as fully healed as he's going to get at this point. But what's taking time is he's got to build back up strength, balance, body control, etc. He's got to make some very small, incremental, but important improvements so that when he comes back, he's going to be ready to play and he's not going to have to be on and off the shelf every few weeks for soreness /hurt muscles/overextertion.

Also will say, IT believes Cavs doctors have been a godsend for him. Believes Celtics docs weren't always acting in his best interests given his impending contract situation.

You are saying they were not going to treat him properly, so they could get a deal on his next contract? That was his belief? That is rough.

Do you know technically what the Cleveland Clinic is doing that the Celtics weren't? I just wonder why it would vary so much.

Exactly. THIS is why I don't believe the hopeful hype.

The Cavs are merely doing the reverse of the Celtics.

Why? Because what value would there be in being negative about IT to the press?

I think the real truth is unknown. Just because he looks good and fluid doesn't mean that he'll be able to handle contact and the grind of the NBA season. Some injuries ONLY heal with surgery.

If IT is refusing surgery for sake of his contract, then we have no choice but to hope he's making great progress. But that doesn't mean that he's actually going to return to 100%

The fact of the matter is this: we have no fucking clue until we actually see him play in real NBA games.

He was just frustrated with some minor rehab issues. Felt they were being secretive about their plans for his rehab. Etc, etc. almost like they were fine with him missing half the year even if he didn't have to

Cavs have been aggressive, he has healed well, and things are just much more defined here.
