Did we seriously make this a WATCH thread? Guess there will be no Izzone at the Q:(

I'm a little short on time here, so I apologize for this request. But the other thread is very long. In that thread, did anyone who has watched Izzo extensively give a summary of his strengths and weaknesses as a coach? I'm pretty unfamiliar with his style and want to hear about it, but I'll only go back through that thread if there's good substance in it. If it's all useless speculation about his plane leaving, I won't bother.

If Izzo was accepting the job this presser would be his announcement to the world that he's accepting it. I feel like it would be strange that the event wouldn't have been official by now and that Gilbert and Grant wouldn't be there. Not to be negative but if there is a press conference at MSU this afternoon it makes more sense that it's to announce he isn't taking the job.

The initial story that started this whole thing in the last thread said that Izzo was going to accept but was going to put off the official announcement until Friday. Then the shit hit the fan with WFNY getting blasted but sticking by its story, etc. It is possible that all the rumor-mongering and denials the last 48 hours have been just Kabuki theater completely consistent with the initial report from WFNY.

well one thing i know is for sure. Izzo must have the most people ever around him. It seems like 30 writers each have their own source connected directly to Izzo. He must be like eddy curry, supporting 4 families.

And if that's the case I think something more major would have leaked.

If the presser is happening it's to announce he is leaving, say his goodbyes and thank yous. Gilbert doesn't need to be there for that. He only needs to be at the introduction presser here in Cleveland.

I made a comparison in the other thread that some people seemed to agree with..

Izzo is kinda like Scott Skiles, except without the "total asshole as a person" gene.

Though he definitely prefers a faster pace than Skiles offensively.

Im calling some water works at the msu presser

If Gilbert showed up at a press conference where Izzo was announcing he's leaving, I don't think he'd make it out alive. I'm not even sure Izzo would make it out without some scratches...

He always gets the most out of his players. He's the anti Mike Brown in that he's a fiery guy who will get in your face. He preaches defense and hard nosed rebounding. It's pretty rare for an MSU team to be outrebounded. His offense isn't as strong as his D, but it's still not bad. He likes to push the ball a lot, something that would fit in great with a guy like LeBron. He's one of those guys who is a better coach than he is recruiter. He is always competing without having the most talent. Hell he managed to win some tourney games when his best player (Kalin Lucas) went down hurt.

His biggest weakness is that he hasn't coached in the NBA before.

Edit: Also there were stories about players getting bloody lips in practice because he would put a lid on the hoop and tell them to rebound hard. There was no out of bounds in these drills.
