If the presser is happening it's to announce he is leaving, say his goodbyes and thank yous. Gilbert doesn't need to be there for that. He only needs to be at the introduction presser here in Cleveland.

I see that angle too, I guess I just figured that since news outlets would run announcing the Cavs new head couch after the press conference that the Cavs would want to have Gilbert/Grant there for a few comments on how 'they're excited to have him and help complete the goal of winning a championship and deflect questions about Lebron staying etc etc'.

He always gets the most out of his players. He's the anti Mike Brown in that he's a fiery guy who will get in your face. He preaches defense and hard nosed rebounding. It's pretty rare for an MSU team to be outrebounded. His offense isn't as strong as his D, but it's still not bad. He likes to push the ball a lot, something that would fit in great with a guy like LeBron. He's one of those guys who is a better coach than he is recruiter. He is always competing without having the most talent. Hell he managed to win some tourney games when his best player (Kalin Lucas) went down hurt.

His biggest weakness is that he hasn't coached in the NBA before.

Edit: Also there were stories about players getting bloody lips in practice because he would put a lid on the hoop and tell them to rebound hard. There was no out of bounds in these drills.

I don't think you can call it a weakness if it's never happened. His biggest "knock" maybe. I think he'll do fine, and I agree with the rest of your assessment.

No not usually. They wouldn't be there at the MSU presser. Those people dont care about the cavs. They just want to hear Izzo and Izzo just wants to say thanks & goodbye. Expect a conference sunday here, in cleveland. Much less emotional, more business like.

If Gilbert showed up at a press conference where Izzo was announcing he's leaving, I don't think he'd make it out alive. I'm not even sure Izzo would make it out without some scratches...

See LeBron 6's post

This is as official as it's going to get, I think:

MSU basketball sports information director Matt Larson left me a message and said there's no 4 p.m. press conference scheduled for today.

EDIT: But then again, just because there's no conference scheduled doesn't mean one can't be improvised.... Wishful thinking on my part, but we'll see what happens.

That would be really harsh, considering they would be saying it to a heartbroken East Lansing crowd.

No, they'll hold a formal presser in Cleveland for that stuff.

This is a very volatile situation down there at MSU, and I'm sure Gilbert and Grant aren't the most popular people down there anyway.

Do we have any reports on where Lupe Izzo was during the entire 9 hours she was in Cleveland? I surely hope they kept Delonte away from her!

Right, and I think it is telling that the biggest "knock" is lack of NBA experience.

It seems likely Izzo takes Cavs job. Unless he is really craving this attention to announce to the MSU faithful that he is staying but I just don't see it. I believe the Cavs will give him a lot of say in the upcoming roster moves and especially in the draft and this is just too much to pass up when you add in the in the likelihood of Lebron staying as well.

These reporters have more "sources" and "Friends of Izzo"........he must have a ton of Friends.
