Jae Crowder, See Ya When We See Ya

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So he can match up against Livingston? Who will post him up and score at will without breaking a sweat?

Nah.

Livingston is a guy I cannot believe that peopel still let him get to his spot. They think they can guard him in the mid range because he has no outside shot, but you can't. You have to guard him out to the 3 point line. Don't wait until he gets to the area he is automatic in. IT can guard him, he just has to start at the 3pt line. OR get a wing to guard him.

I am not going to pretend I can figure out how to beat them. The smartest NBA coaches can't. To replicate the 2016 win you have to win after being down 3-1 which never happened, Jr needs to hit like 3 3's and a super shot by Kyrie , a block and KLove has to make a huge stop. All that and beat the new Guy KD. That is a hard recipe.

How many mins do you think he averages?

If he can be our answer to Iggy it closes the gap a good deal imo.

Our bench has been awful the last 3 years in the finals.

He should average in the neighborhood of 30 mins a game with roster constructed as is today. I think this is finally the year you see LeBron have his minutes restricted to 32ish a game. That's an automatic 16 for Crowder because he will always be on the court if LeBron is off.

But you'll also have a lot of time where LeBron and Jae share the court, including IMO, crunch time down the stretch. I think they share the court for close to 12-14 minutes a game.

Crowder's defense will be too important to leave off the court. He's going to get big minutes.

I hope to God they don't trade him for Melo....weird feeling it happens though. To expand on that thought, Cavs front office believes if they add Melo, it likely extends LeBron another year since Melo has 2 years left. While they recognize the value and great fit of Jae, if trading him for Melo ensures another year of LeBron, it makes Jae expendable.

But I want Jae in a Cav uniform next year....Just love his game.

I think we can find ways to beat them. But not with IT playing any significant minutes. If we picked up a defensive PG who could stick with Curry and handle some switches on defense then I think we could slow them down, take them out of their pace and rhythm, and bully them.

Cavs make a lot of mistakes

I don't think that's because of Isaiah; in fact, I'd argue the opposite.

Not even... Thomas wasn't good against the Warriors at all..

Thomas' stats in those games:

2016-17:
2 games
31 MPG
21.5 PPG
1.0 TRB
3.5 APG
11/32 FG 34.4%
5/16 3P 31.3%
32% USG (wtf?)
.555 TS%
-13.7 +/- (I know you like plus-minus so included it here)

2015-16:
2 games
39.5 MPG
20.0 PPG
3.0 TRB
8.0 APG
16/42 FG 38.1%
3/13 3P 23.1%
29% USG (again, wtf?)
.444 TS%
-4.3 +/-

2015-16:
3 games
18.3 MPG
20.0 PPG
3.3 TRB
5.7 APG
16/47 FG 34.0%
6/22 3P 27.3%
30.6% USG (again, wtf?)
.501 TS%
-3.0 +/-

So, while the Celtics, the team performed well, relatively, Thomas did not.

To ITs defense, he was the sole scoring option Boston had.
Now, with a Lebron present, more opportunities will be there for him.
Is expect him to have a career year for
Efficiency.
You just can't underestimate the affect of LBJ.

My love is out there for Jae and his lost mother... You fit here and you will love it here as we treat you as a family. RIP Miss Crowder.

You can't.. the Celtics couldn't... And against Golden State, he will be a target in the PnR nonstop..

It's... just not going to work.

I also think Thomas' offensive game won't translate from the Celtics playing alongside so many other high-scoring players... Nor do I think going from Stevens to Lue will benefit his game...

Really feel like Thomas has to be traded ASAP.

Irving was terrible at defense as well. IT is worse but I don't see how that difference really manifests itself on the basketball court.

Except Melo has an opt out so whos to say he doesnt opt out after a year and LBJ walks with him?

We won with Kyrie before they added Durant. We lost badly with Kyrie after they added Durant.

IT is a clear downgrade to Kyrie. Yes adding Crowder is an upgrade but if IT is on the court he can be relentlessly attacked which ruins any defensive scheme we could possibly come up with.

The Warriors made life very tough for Kyrie's offensive efforts as well. Kyrie had some success in these most recent finals but he got shut down a LOT. IT will have an even harder time against that type of defense. As poor as the Cavs were on defense we shut IT down with ease when we game planned to do so. The Celts only beat us with IT not on the court.

Why go through the entire season knowing the ax is bound to fall when it matters most? Field a team that can make the Warriors work hard on every possession just to get a bucket, and bully them when we're on offense. IT ruins any such scheme.

A lot of people wanted to do that last year. I was against it because Lue and Griffin were all in on a different style where we tried to outscore everyone and defense was an afterthought all season long. I didn't want to try to change gears right before the finals, it would have been an even worse disaster. We had to roll with what we started with.

But if we try to go strong on defense and figure out how to use the guys we have offensively, I give us a much better chance to throw the Warriors off their game. Make Durant work his ass off on every possession instead of giving him free asses to the basket and wide open shots like we did last year. Beat Curry up with tough physical defensive players who are long enough to challenge and just quick enough to stay in front of him.

Give Lebron a retooled lineup with those abilities and let them gel during the whole regular season and I really like our chances. Basically re-define how we approach them away from the Griffin outscoring model into a tough bully team, then let Lebron work his magic.

The teams that gave the Warriors a hard time didn't try to outscore them. They challenged them with tough physical defense (Utah, Memphis, Spurs). They just didn't have the horses to keep up scoring, and they didn't have Lebron.

Except Melo has an opt out so whos to say he doesnt opt out after a year and LBJ walks with him?

Melo can opt after the season but he'd be leaving a ton of money on the table. I think the assumption around the league is that wherever Melo agrees to be traded, his intention will be to opt in on his last year. He can't make the kind of money the last year of his deal provides ($28M) anywhere else.

So yes, you are correct, but there is a feeling if they get Melo, it likely buys them at least one more year of LeBron as well.

Either way, I'd rather have Crowder for the reasons I stated earlier. Better defense, solid spot up shooter, gritty, just a better fit, IMO.

Hell no to any thought of trading Crowder to bring in Melo.

I'm in favor of bringing Melo here but not at the expense of losing what we need the most, a bonafide wing defender who can shoot the corner three.

I've put out a flurry of posts about how I want to replace IT with a credible perimeter defender, then bring in Melo to get some of the buckets that we'd lose with Kyrie's/IT's departure. For me the upside is Melo has the tools to at least be solid on defense if he puts out the effort. I think if he plays reduced minutes in a strong rotation of swing players they can all go all-out on defense 100% of the time. That's got to be part of our formula for beating the Warriors.
