Jim Schwartz: 2023 NFL Asst. COY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The bookends meet this weekend!

A good Q was inquired upon in the comment section of where Broncos would fall had the Miami outlier game been tossed out entirely. Metrics show they've gotten very hot on defense these last handful of weeks.

Some noticeable stats for this defense--

- Teams have scored first drive TD in 5 of last 7 games
- Since Week 6, Browns are 23rd in Rush EPA
- Since Week 6, Browns are 12th in overall EPA in 1st half, and 1st in overall EPA in 2nd half
- Browns have allowed 24+ points in 4 of last 6 games

This isn't to take anything away from Schwartz, but teams are attacking this defense early and often.. After the Watson injury, keeping the game tight and manageable is key with their quarterback situation..

This defense has also seemingly been gashed on any pre-motion snap runs which is something they have to get corrected..

The Rams are going to just absolutely gash us.

Ward is such an important piece to this defense.

Dammit, I wanted to overreact, but everybody beat me to it!

Teams are punishing us for our simple, over aggression now.

Payton and McVey killed us with bootlegs, motion and misdirection.

Need better from Schwartz.

I think there's a better than zero chance we get to the end of this season and people are saying Schwartz actually underachieved with this group.

The sweep game has been murdering us. Feels like if you just run to the outside, you are getting an easy 5 yards and a decent chance for a big hit.

The line has to step it up. A bad DB is going to get exposed and we have reached the point of having to play bad DBs with regularity as a result of injuries. If we aren't heating up QBs with pressure, our LBers and secondary are going to get exposed in the pass game. We aren't going to be able to play tight coverage with some of the guys we are trotting out now if the QB is going to have all day to throw.
