Jim Schwartz: 2023 NFL Asst. COY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Oh boy...

Doesnt mean he will get another HC chance, He was awful for the LIons, he is almost 60 years old, but I cant be mad at him if he does take a HC job.

True, but there's still the chance a team pulls that trigger. I assumed (wrongly) that he wouldn't want another HC position but that sort of changes things.

My hope is that the Browns have been grooming someone under him that would teach the same principles on defense. That or establishing it as a uniform defensive philosophy that can be tweaked/picked up on by newer coordinators. That's how teams like the Steelers and Ravens have maintained strong defenses over the years.

Schwartz also hasn’t been a head coach for like 10-11 years at this point.

Some guys are just really good coordinators. And he is one. I can’t see him wanting to go somewhere like Atlanta or Carolina or whatever where you’re rebuilding.

And usually older coaches who get head coaching gigs are guys who are proven at the head coaching level.

So I’m sure Schwartz would talk to teams if they were interested and I think if he was offered stupid money he would have to consider that too.

But honestly I see someone like Bubba Ventrone getting an interview before Schwartz as the Assistant HC/ST and young guy.

I would be very surprised if Schwartz got another opportunity to be a coach.

He was really bad with Detroit. He's had health problems in the past. And above all else, he's from the defensive side of the ball which is not where many teams are looking for retread coaches.

Fair or foul, older coaches from a defensive background just don't often get a second chance, especially if their first chance went really poorly.

I can't imagine anyone is kicking down the door to give Vic Fangio or Steve Wilks or Steve Spagnuolo a second chance, ya know? Schwartz is in the same boat as those guys.
