Jimmy Butler Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You are all, most likely, going to your grave never seeing another Cavs championship. This is simple reality. If you’re 18, maybe it’s 50/50. It took the GOAT being born in our backyard, us getting the number 1 pick, and the fact he was born in our backyard and cared about the opinion of thousands of people in NE Ohio to return, to get us one title.

Barring some perfect storm situation, that will only occur through the draft where we make a succession of great picks ala the Warriors, it isn’t happening. It took the Spurs being horrible. Sitting a healthy David Robinson to tank for Duncan, that created that whole dynasty. If a championship is the goal, tanking and the draft are the only choice, not simply the better of the two. We need to get lucky multiple times in a short time period. No hall of fame prime FA is ever signing here. I know this because I’ve watched none come close in almost 50 years of being a Cavs fan. I’d rather tank every year and hope to get lucky than be the Pacers every year. Some may not. Some many enjoy simply making the playoffs. That’s a matter of opinion. The optimal strategy for winnng a championship isn’t a matter of opinion for Cleveland. It’s self-evident. Tank.
If you believe that fine. But the fact that your on this board and posting such a long diatribe means you have little going on in life. Go be a laker,Celtic or warrior fan

I dont think it's a lie that Cleveland is not an A List destination for 25 year old NBA millionaires.. it becomes a destination if it is well managed so players can maximize thier career, eg the Spurs..

In that light, we need to look at Lebron as a launching pad, that carried the franchise from horrible to functional. What we do with Love and Sexton and Cedi and Hood will be a bigger vector on the franchise long term than Lebron..

As far as butler goes, if we get him cheap we should consider it. Boston took advantage of us, when Kryie forced a trade..

Really? No prime hall of fame free agents have ever signed here?

LeBron James just signed here as a free agent. Kevin Love just signed here TWICE as a free agent. Those are 2 in just the last 5 years.

But I guess they don't count because of the ridiculous confirmation bias you all have.

Why do you guys insist on believing ESPN's lies about Cleveland?

Let’s be honest here.

Lebron signed because of Kyrie and assets (to get another superstar, KLove). Love agreed to a trade with the Cavs because of Kyrie/LeBron and a max deal that the TWolves wouldn’t agree to. He also got another max extension because no one could give him that money and the expectations are the smallest he will ever experience as a pro.
It’s not bias, it's truth. Cleveland Cavs basketball is #3 in a small market sports town.

Minny should do nothing....they aren't winning anything with Butler anyway...let him sit out the season he's gone anyway next year...if he comes back dont play him...see what a year off feels like Jimbo...Cavs could've played hardball with Kyrie too but I feel they knew deep down LBJ was gone anyway and wanted that draft pick above all else

@TitleTown

All the arguments that suggest Jimmy Butler is a risk due to being on only a 1-year deal seem to go out the window today with ESPN reporting that Butler's camp is saying he's requesting a contract extension from the team he goes to... Now, obviously this means he'll speak with the team's GM before he's traded. So the Cavs would know if he was willing to extend before trading for him.

So with that being said -- that strongly mitigates the risk of him just being a 1-year rental. Instead, you'd be trading him with the public understanding that Butler would never reach free agency.

So now the only argument that would make sense is if one thinks a future built around Collin Sexton and other as-of-yet drafted players is likely better than an alternative rebuild centered around Love, Butler, and max cap space?

He is in the last year of his contract. I think we could have played hard ball with Kyrie because he had two years left.

It's best for Minny just cut bait and move on to build the team. Thibs seems to be willing to pick up any players from his Bulls days. It might be best to move on from Thibs too and see if someone else can build around KAT, Wiggins, Teague, etc.

It's bias because you're dismissing the fact that free agents signed here. Of course there were reasons for their signing beyond Cleveland the city. Duh.

That's how it is for free agent signings in ANY small market.

You can dance around it all you want. We've signed top free agents in LeBron and Kevin Love. We will be able to sign more in the future if we keep building a winning culture.

I refuse to believe the ESPN horseshit about small markets. Think for yourself.

Fantastic point!

People are so hell bent on following ESPN's preferred direction for our franchise that they can't possibly fathom a middle ground approach wherein the Cavs pursue talented players in more ways than just tanking.

Agreed. Dan knew he was gone.

Goes back to the fact that Lebron James for the city of Cleveland will never happen again. Without James, none of this happens and before James, it never happened. Simple.

If it will never happen again, then what do you suggest we actually do? Lol

What’s your point ? Fold up the franchise ?

Realize we had our moment and don’t overreact to the fact that it’s over. Don’t trade somewhat valuable assets for a guy who won’t win us anything. Pray that the assets we have might be something in the future.
