Joe John$on is a Loser

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh boy another Safari

Lets do this thing boys (and girls)

When is the deadline for bought out players to sign with a team in order to ensure they're available for the playoffs? Did I read something about that or am I making it up?

OK you guys have me sold: time to twiiter bomb JJ's account and get this Safari heated up

A player has to clear waivers by March 1st to be eligible for the playoffs with another team. It takes 48 hours for a player to clear waivers, so the player in question would have to be waived no later than Feb 28th (remember, this is a leap year). That's next Sunday.

As usual, Larry Coon lays out the details:

Also, some have said that a TPE can be used to claim a waived player (during the 48 hour period). This is true, but the player's entire yearly salary needs to fit within the TPE, not just the balance of what he is owed, and the claiming team would then be responsible for that player's entire salary for salary cap purposes. So the Cavs can't use a TPE to claim Joe Johnson. No team has the requisite cap space or TPE, so his clearing waivers is a complete formality.

A player needs to be signed by the end of the regular season to be eligible for the playoffs. This year that is April 15th at 3 pm ET.

These facts are all readily available from reliable sources online, so it is striking how some who should know better are not aware of them. Not to unfairly call him out, but Windhorst said repeatedly last year that the Cavs could sign someone up until the 7th game of the NBA finals (Ray Allen was the name being mentioned at that time), but this simply is not true.

So since the nets bought out barngani does that mean they are keeping Joe

Nets have a New GM. As all new GM's with Bargani on the roster do getting him off the roster is a no brainer. Joe Johnson though would take some negotiation.

Nets don't care where they finish they traded their pick and its unprotected . however a 50% buyout would save them 5 million in salary and also ensure that they do not hit the luxury tax which would mark them as a repeaters.

so it gives them some breathing room and saves money

Nets are already under the tax after the deron Williams buyout

never said they were over. thanks for correcting something I didn't say.

they are close enough where shedding 5 million gives them a nice cushion to make room.

I'm really coveting Joe Johnson. As others have said though, it just doesn't seem like it's in the cards. I'm not gonna hold my breath, but I will be thrilled if we pick him up.

He'd be able to run some point too.

Feel like I'm getting too greedy though but imagine if RJ played this well most nights...that's JJ.

Room to do what exactly? It's past the trading deadline and Johnson expires at the end of the season. The can only sign people to vet min deals because they are over the cap - and they would need to sign ~4 more vet min deals in order to go back into the tax. But they don't have any roster spots for any more deals. So this doesn't make much sense. So this doesn't make much sense.
