JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He gets an additional half a million dollars to sit on his ass for a month? Unreal.

If the Cavs get a haul back now or a great asset his contract was worth every penny.

Big thank you to JR for helping out the Cavs! Maybe his number 5 will be retired someday soon.

I wonder who came to who about this. JR now realizes he is going to be a vet minimum salary player and Rich Paul goes gets him an extra half a million. I thought it was weird that ESPN was talking about how his contract could be pushed back. It just didn't seem like Koby and this current front office style to leak something like that.

Getting it push back to August 1st opens up alot more on how it could be used. Koby will be competing with open cap space though. I think our best bet will be pairing TT or Clarkson to JRs contract and taking a real big contract back.

Except teams that don't use that open cap space may wish to preserve it - and many will find ways to spend it. By July 15 all of the pieces will have moved.

Charlotte's cap situation is not getting any better either. The Cavs could provide some relief and also give them a stop gap PG in Brandon Knight.

The team always comes to the player with this to find more time for a trade. Otherwise it would have been smart for jr to reach free agency as soon as possible and try to get part of the MLE instead of the vet min.

Call Magic and offer JR Smith + filler for Mozgov + Bamba + filler.

With Magic giving Vucevic a fat contract they need to clear space for a PG in FA and with Vuce in town Bamba won't really have a role. Beilein heavily recruited Bamba when he was at Michigan.

They have basically already announced that JR is going to the Lakers. My guess is he takes vets minimum and Klutch finds him other money to make up for it. Like a part in space jam 2.

They have had all this time to complete something and still need another month. Tells me something is up,,trade incoming possibly including TT/Clarkson/Knight?

"With this agreement, Smith’s guarantee increases from $3.9 million to $4.4 million. His new guarantee date is July 15 and there is an option for both parties to push it again to Aug. 1 if needed. The Cavs had until Sunday to either trade or release Smith before his contract became fully guaranteed."

They probably have some teams that are interested but after the first wave of FA. Teams need to see where they are and if they need another player, they’ll pick him up for salary

JR Smith agreed to push his guarantee date to August 1st, giving the Cavaliers more time to try and trade him — a league source said

Well now, this is a surprise. Tells me a few things:

1) Cavs are serious about trading him & have had some nibbles.
2) JR’s contract could very well be used in a multi-player trade, once free agency plays itself out.

I’m less certain of what JR’s motivation is for going along with this?
