LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah there's always one side on this trade that didn't happen.
But the thing no one is saying is that the Pacers backed out.
The speculation in there was a bit of Lebron not committing but also the thing of the Pacers not wanting to ship PG within their own division to their ready made championship foe...why would you make them stronger???
I think Denver was a third team in that mix also, which they would have taken Love..something like that.

But on the Irving front, I think his name was mentioned before that in some sort if rumored deal.
And Gilbert was miffed at the Pacers as his comment on what they received wouldn't have been better than what the Cavs were offering.

Lebron not committing was when Kyrie for George and Bledsoe was being discussed.

There was nothing about Lebron not committing when Love for George was being pushed.

Ok latest from Cavs insider over at OSU board.

Cavs trying to get a deal done with Memphis for 4th pick. That deal would involve taking on chandler parsons.

Cavs would send that pick and 8th pick for Kawai.

Spurs like that deal but are waiting to see if they can pry any of the big 4 young studs from Boston or philly.

So far philly and Boston are not offering that.

If spurs can’t get them, the Cavs are in a good position for Kawai.

If not Kawai deal, then Cavs will probably execute kemba-Marvin Williams deal for the pick.

Cavs are holding very firm on not packaging love and 8th pick for simply one stud.

Are any of these insiders saying when is the deadline that the Spurs are willing to wait for Boston or trade to us?

I love to believe this stuff as much as the next Cavs fan, and I'm sure the Cavs are exploring Kahwi deals.

BUT the one thing that makes zero sense in this scenario: why/how the Cavs would get the 4th pick from Memphis without giving up Love or #8. I believe it's been reported that Grizz would be willing to move the #4 and Parsons as a way to move back in the lottery. Them moving #4 without getting ANY asset back (simply dumping Parsons) just doesn't seem likely.

Most people I've heard or read on the situation expect the Spurs to hold onto Kawhi all the way up to the trade deadline. Or at the minimum, Oct. 29th, the last day the Spurs can offer Kawhi the supermax.

Forgive my ignorance on this but why would Memphis even do this without getting one of those 2 picks? Just for salary cap relief?

I'll take that bet. We will need video proof.

I think there is just alot of misinformation about how Memphis will deal the 4th pick. Initial reports were they were willing to trade down to get Parsons off their books. It never said how far they would trade down.

I do think they would trade down to #8 to get rid of Parsons especially if they get some better players in return. I'm not completely certain they would want Hill or JR even though they are expirings. TT or Korver/Clarkson give them more usable players to strengthen their rotation.

I've always seen the tiers for this draft as one thru 3 or 4 then the next tier as 4 thru 9 or 10. With how the Spurs scout, #4 will probably be the best player of tier 2 for sure or possibly the last player of tier 1. They will certainly come out with a very good player at #4, they might see it more as a crapshoot at #8.

This is the time of year for total misinformation. Like, I believe we could have possibly had a Love for George trade if Lebron reupped, but if Indiana wanted that trade, why would Lebron’s refusal to commit cause them to back out? Might cause George to back out, but why would Gilbert then react? Doesn’t even make sense. It was rumored this is what pissed off Kyrie, as he seems the one Indiana would likely have wanted. You can’t trust anything coming out of Indiana as they have a total incentive to see Lebron leave and go west with an up and coming team that can’t get past him.

Even the most respected reporters are played at this time of year. Every GM has an agenda.

I think the Pacers toyed with us for a while and then decided that for sure they didn't want PGIII joining forces with Lebron in the east and that Oladipo as an ex-Indiana guy was attractive (and they turned out to be 100% right about that!), so we never could have gotten them to deal with us. A shame as I think Love or even Kyrie for PGIII was the way to go to retool against the Dubs.

yeah I love how they give no detail on what the Memphis deal is, because there is nothing we have outside of Lebron that would ever lead them to trade us the #4 pick in this draft, especially without getting the #8 pick.

I do think we could get a Chandler-Gasol-Conley deal done with them where they clear the decks for a rebuild by dumping off $80 million worth of contracts for old and frequently injured guys in exchange for our junk. And that probably would improve our team TBH. But I'm not even sure we could match salaries without including Love, which we wouldn't want to do...Hill/TT/JR is only like $50 million

The draft will put alot of pressure on the situation. If their guy is there are #4 or #8, the Spurs will have to really make some quick decision on the situation. #4+Hill+Zizic or #4+TT could be alot of value to pass up especially if the guy at #4 is a player the Spurs see as a superstar level ceiling. Draft odds change next year and next year is a weaker draft, getting future picks might be more of a gamble.

I was just typing this up when I saw your post. With the rumors last night of Cavs reportedly working with Memphis and offering a pick + Thompson + a role player (not including Love), I could see something like this. Obviously, as you mentioned, likely depends on who's there at #4.

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yd8p467k

CLE out: #8, Thompson, Hill, Osman
CLE in: Kawhi, Parsons

SA out: Kawhi
SA in: #4, Thompson, Cedi

MEM out: #4, Parsons
MEM in: #8, Hill

Interesting. That basically tells you they're ready to go in full-rebuild mode and are valuing picks/young studs over ready-made star players (Kyrie, Hayward, etc.). We'd prolly have to take back Gasol's contract as well.

If not Kawai deal, then Cavs will probably execute kemba-Marvin Williams deal for the pick.

So you mean #4 for Kemba & Williams Or #8 for Kemba & Williams?

Cavs are holding very firm on not packaging love and 8th pick for simply one stud.

How about...
