LeBron Thanks Akron...and now Cleveland (bike-a-thon)

I've said it before and I will say it again, a friend of mine that I went to high school with was hooking up with Shaq during the season last year and confirmed with all of us at the party after his MVP speach, Delonte was all over Gloria that night...

She has no reason to make that up to my friends... She was at the party...

Take it for what its worth...

Well fine then. It was at the James MVP party so James was there and James saw Delonte all over his Mom like everyone else did. So this wasn't something that would have hit him out of a complete surprise. He already knew his Mommy was flirting with Delonte. Did he say anything to Delonte at the party if he was so upset with this? If not, why not?

To now use this alleged affair as an excuse for quitting on the Cavs and on his fans is simply not credible, and very far reaching as well. It seems obvious he knew about the two of them being very friendly.

"James said those kids might be the next famous person.

"We never know, the next Barack Obama might be sitting there on a bike, or the next LeBron James or Oprah Winfrey," he said. "When you find that talent you have, go for it and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it."

I fail to see how giving a child a new bike helps them become the next Obama ..Oprah.. LeBron... WTF was that statement even about? Wow this kid talks out his ass ...

I should also note that you should also see that James never said getting a bike would the catalyst to a child becoming the next <insert name>. He was speaking of his continued desire to help children, to empower children so that they can fulfull their potential...whatever that may be.

Now with all that being said, having worked with kids...you never know what event, article or circumstance ultimately becomes that catalyst for a child. So on one of those bikes could be the next Lance Armstrong. Or getting a new bike may help a kid who's never received much of anything new, have a greater sense of self worth etc...

You either have never spent alot of time around chidren or more than likely you just want to get your digs in at James, because he switched employers on national tv. :smh:

What's funny is that LeBron wasn't even the most pathetic Nike athlete in Akron this weekend.

How are people actually buying this phony 'thanks' to Clevelanders? There would have been zilch had Z not done the exact same thing. Z has more class in the tip of his finger than Lebron has in his entire body.

"......This isn't Cleveland.

Now, the slobbering news article is hardly indicative of the amount or percentage of support Lebron has in Akron. People who were upset or turned off by the guy wouldn't have shown up, unless you get a kick out of booing kids. So, hardly surprising that the event was low key.

That said....My God, what is wrong with some of these people? I'm 24 years old and lived in this area for the vast majority of my life, always on the border of either Medina or Summit county. I only moved away recently, and I'm back here a LOT (seriously, like once a month).

Until now I've never ever heard people from different parts of the region talk this or that about how "this isn't Cleveland". Not unless you were from like Youngstown or Columbus, which truly aren't. Yeah, well where I grew up "wasn't Cleveland" either, but you never heard people talk about it.

I swear, I think local people who are fanboys of this jackass are jumping on his bandwagon of trying to drive a wedge into this area. It's sick.

Yeah, like we don't have enough problems here already. Let's Balkanize the area while we're at it.

I totally disagree with this. Akron guys always claim Akron and not Cleveland. I have a few that from my younger days that I was cool with and some not so cool with. The Akron guys that I was cool with made a definite point to differentiate Akron from Cleveland. LeBron himself always made a total separation of Akron and Cleveland. People in the Ohio jails beef because of Akron and Cleveland.
There is a separation between Akron and Cleveland...always has, always will be.

Sure. He never directly said that, but he certainly inferred it. I find his choice of names he used that kids could become quite amusing. LOL Why the hell would you want your kid to be like James? You wouldn't. Sure, you would want the Bball ability but certainly not the moral fiber/character that he turned out to be.

Get digs at James? You simply want to defend this guy at every turn. You now need to move to Miami I think.

I also guess you believe that kids should be given things for free. It's nice that charities do help people, etc, but with what we now know about james and the using of kids for public relations purposes, this dick-my-momma-a-thon holds new meaning.

I was born and raised in Akron, moved to Cleveland, back to Akron, and have been in the area my entire life, and from my personal experiences with all of the people I know from Akron, a majority of them associate themselves with Cleveland.

You're inferring this, and even if this was the case, we have no clue how things progressed from there. For instance according to some of the rumors, the bigger issue was when LeBron discovered that many of his teammates knew about the affair and never told him. Feeling betrayed by West is one thing, feeling betrayed by most of his teammates would be something else.

But it's nice of you to pretend for a moment this actually did go down. :)

I guess it depends on the people. LeBron is/was definitely one of those who made a point to differentiate.

I'd even say it may be a race thing where people "claim their hoods".

I'm black BTW... I can go further but will just leave it here.

We can argue all day about whether he infered it our whether you just read that in there, but ultimately it doesnt matter because it doesnt change his point. Just because he hurt your feelings doesn't make him the devil, with no positive characteristics. On the outside looking in there are a number of things i would be happy for my child to imitate. 1) being his loyalty to his family and friends 2) being his courage to make a unpopular decision 3) being his giving back to the younger generation.

:chuckles: remember im a plant, paid to defend this guy...:chuckles:. Seriously though you can hate on him if/all you want but at least keep it real.

It's unfortunately not possible to get a feel for this on the board, because anyone who'd even try to speak up and say they are from Akron and still support LeBron would get blasted; but as we've discussed this over the years, there's always been a split in Akron of people who follow Cleveland teams and those who like LeBron reject them and look anywhere else.

What exactly is that split?

Dunno

fwiw, there was a poll on Ohio.com and hence open to ABR readers and anyone else who follows them online that asked "Can you ever forgive LeBron James?" and 721 people (18%) out of nearly 4000 have voted yes. 18% is a far cry of a majority, but it's a significant number.

James set the stage for his departure long before Gloria and Delonte were bumping uglies. I now believe that he was outbound the whole time and the only question was when and where. His Mommy's shenanigans pissed him off, but probably had no impact on his pre-meditated defection, other than make it a little less royal. This is probably what irked James the most - the quiet sniggering that he knew would contaminate the shock and awe he was aiming for.

LBJ has tremendous insecurities that underlie his "King" act. Fans should exploit those when he comes to play here. ;)

1. I don't know how you get he is loyal to family? Says who? James? Savannah might have another opinion of that.

2. He didn't care about who he hurt by the decision. That wasn't a consideration of him at all. He only cares about LeBron James. Don't ever forget that when you are cheering him on in Miami.

3. Many give back to the younger generation not named James. NO BIG DEAL. He used young people in his decision as well.

There ya have it. Positive characteristics? The guy is a dirtbag.

As i dont feel like breaking down your entire (whiny) post, i'll handle the low(est) hanging fruit.

You do realize that your point makes no sense. James gives back to the kids, but thats not a good character trait, because other people do it too...

Does that "logic" work in relation to bad traits as well..i.e since lots of people are liars is James now off the hook for that bad trait?

You know, maybe James has his bikeathon because he cares for those little kids and wants them to have bikes. Maybe politicians kiss babies because they are spontaneously overcome by their cuteness and just have to kiss them right there and then. I don't know - believe what you will. I like that comparison, by the way. Politicians, like James, typically have a modest sense of self.
