Let it all out: Guardians Edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When is the last time, if ever, that a Cleveland team failed to hit a single HR at Yankees Stadium during a series in the Bronx? Did any Guardians hitter even hit a ball to the warning track the past few days? The complete dearth of power at the moment is truly frightening.
Expanding, through 31 games

2022- 30 HR (14th) and .406 SLG (6th)
2023- 17 HR (29th) and .338 SLG (30th)

I guess the positive is they are currently only 1 win behind last year's pace

Unfortunately, even if we draft someone this year (as you hope for in the draft forum, if I recall), he will be 2+ years away as well. And, going through the prospect lists, I am just waiting for a kid like Manuel Mejias to break out in Lynchburg. He will just be 19 in June and being a part of the Jan 21 Int signee group, he is only one prospect other than Genao to make it out of the complex so far and that includes Alduey and Aldeano who I know people are high on. Thus, Guardians must be high on him. Yet, it has to be an area that we target in our trading of pitchers -- should be able to snare 1-2 depth pieces that can join Naylor as a back-up that we hoped Lava would be. Of course, you want someone higher up but getting a Cartaya or even a Quero is a lot to ask with Bieber's decline (with good catchers kind of being horded by a few teams).
mock draft picks.. yes..

proposed trades..also, yes...

At one point I counted over 40 % of my postings regarding the acquisitions had a catcher as the primary or the add in to complete a deal.. That's over 700 postings over more than a couple years..

It remains the most dire area of concern for this team to contend.. imho

2023 14-17
2022 15-16

As you said.. one game difference..

The 2022 Guardians went 3-7 over the next 10 games to arrive at 18-23..

So I never venture into the Guardians room.. I follow baseball but I'm out of my depth on the finer points to say the least.

That said, last year felt like it was supposed to be a re-build/re-tool season that had the happy surprise of a bunch of young guys clicking and a few vets playing above their expected production to go along with Jose and Bieber doing their thing.

Are we now seeing a regression to the mean, paired with the pitching injures and lack of power development in our minor league system? Is this the re-build/re-tool season that should have happened last year? Still too early to tell, I'd guess, but it feels like we may be looking at a move on from Beibs here in the coming months. Hope they get some bats that transalte at the major league level.

I really never understood the line of thinking or acknowledging what a team’s record was a season or 2 prior and comparing it to the current season?

Let’s say the G’s rattle off 47 wins in a row…. But next season are sitting there with a 14-17 record to start the season — are we gonna use the big win streak as a barometer ?

At what point does the selling begin and the youth movement go into full effect? With our pitching depth it's difficult to see how guys like Civale, Plesac, and Cal keep their spots. If the Twins run away with the division, Bieber is likely gone soon. We're not competing for anything with this joke of an offense. Rosario has no business being an every day SS, is he playing because hes JRams friend? Zunino has come crashing back to earth. The young guys like Arias, OGon and Brennan need more consistent atbats to know what we have! This offense is a hot mess right now.

We really fucked up when we traded for Tobias Myers, clogged the roster while sucking.... Absolutely no way we can recoup anything from it now... Currently Junior Caminero is averaging a homer 1 every 2.375 games as a 19 year old in high A.

I would say the youth movement is in full swing since last year. I think Plesac is done by the way.

Does Rcristal ever acknowledge Rosario when he's awful, or does he wait for a few blind hits

I think it’s usually when he hits in a double play but beats the throw out. Or the off-season when he doesn’t have a chance to suck.

Can't get much worse and they're hovering around .500. Come talk to me in July. I think the pitching will turn around in a month or so, some teams are still adjusting to this pitch clock and I think it's leading to increased injuries and lower velo rates

We always suck in April, end of May-early June is usually when we turn it around.

Bunch of downers...Great seats still available

Why is our offense so trash if pitchers are adjusting to the pitch clock?

This is clearly very disappointing to many of you, but some of us aren't surprised by the regression because our success last season was due to a lot more than this team's ability. The window is not open yet, but it should be soon enough. In the meantime I'd like to see them rid themselves of some expiring contracts and promote as much ready talent as possible. That's not me wanting to "continually rebuild". I want to assemble the most talented roster possible where that talent matures simultaneously to form a powerhouse. This is the route they chose and it helped accomplish more than they expected last season. Stay the course because if they do then we should be sitting pretty for 5+ yrs starting as soon as next year and no later than 2025. I'm done.
