Let it all out: Guardians Edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My biggest frustration that I need to let out is the mismanagement of Gimenez.

It won’t matter what the rest of our guys do, we aren’t going to be as good as we can be if he keeps scuffling at the plate. And our manager has given him 0 help to get him going.

Put him in a spot where he has protection behind him and let him get decent pitches to get himself going. Teams have been doing that for years, but we can’t do that because of Amed Rosario needing to always bat in the top third of the lineup?

One guy is guaranteed to be here for a long time. One guy is about to be a free agent. You’d think we’d prioritize the long term guy and his comfort and position with the team, but apparently Amed is extra special.

Yeah Amed's special alright.

While I agree that Andres should probably be hitting 2nd, there is no protection in this lineup. No amount of lineup protection, is going to make Gimenez hit the ball harder and stop chasing balls out of the zone. Andres is the one mismanaging his own ABs.

Andres hitting 5th or 6th with no protection this year is hitting .158 with a .227 on base and a .198 slugging. He has struck out 22% of the time.

Batting 2nd or 3rd with some protection he is hitting .307 with a .437 on base and a .308 slugging. He has struck out 6% of the time.

Yeah, it’s only 20ish plate appearances, but it’s obvious what needs to be done with him right now in my mind. People pitch to you differently when Jose, Naylor, Bell are hitting behind you vs Zunino, Straw, or Arias. It’s asinine to assume they don’t.

That is an extremely small sample size and I believe it’s a basically been proven that lineup protection is a myth.

Also, Andres has been by far the best this year batting 7th.

I know it’s a small sample, I said as much.

Get a slumping hitter behind a guy teams don’t want to face with runners on (Jose) and I guarantee he produces more than he currently does.

Like Rosario is doing this year?

This isn’t about player comparisons, it’s about finding a way to get an All-Star out of his early season malaise.

It’s not about lineup construction, it’s not about preference of player, it’s about getting Gimenez going at the plate and a way to kickstart it, which this team absolutely needs if it wants to compete this year. Plain and simple.

I've noticed that we don't hit home runs very frequently. They're rather sparse, in fact.

You know what's missing? That calming, experienced voice intoning "Good swing champ, you'll get into it next time."
