"maybe he's trying to sell some other jerseys now but thanks for the thought" - MJ

Naw, I think he likes the gesture, just thinks LeBron isn't really looking at the big picture. And he's right, LeBron is pretty blinded by his love of MJ since he was growing up. That's who he wants to be, and that's why he picked his number and that's why he wants to stop wearing it to honor him.

I disagree. I have nothing but respect for Jordan, but he's always been a bitch when it comes to Lebron cause he feels a bit defensive. Just look at that asshole speech he gave for his hall of fame acceptance.

Jordan is clearly the best ever, but he's also an ass at times.

he said it, but more in a joking manner. but you completely took it out of context, before that he said several times it was a very nice gesture, etc etc, grateful, but every other star would need to retired too.

Jordan has always been a bitch. thats all you had to say. his hall of fame speech he choose to single out anyone that ever doubted him. it had nothing to do with giving thanks it was all about trying to continue to put people down.

honestly I think in 20 years people are going to look back consider MJ a top 3 talent and first rate asshole, and the top 3 isnt going to come from any current players (well maybe lebron). Instead its going to be look back and seeing the whole picture, not just the last 20 years.

Jordan tells LeBron to :gtfo:

Jordowend.

Why would Lebron want to pay tribute to the number after using it for 7 years? Too late now, but good idea changing the number to sell more jerseys. Kobe did it and it worked, it'll work for you too.

Are you sure you read what I wrote? Its clear from what I said that I clearly think he's an ass. And I pretty much said everything you said aside from the whole looking back in 20 years stuff...lol

Jordan has been quoted saying that he thinks LeBron can be better than he was.

I do agree that it's not too consistent to first choose to wear #23 because of Jordan, then to decide to stop wearing it to show respect for Jordan, only to then switch to #6, which itself was chosen as his olympic number because of Dr. J/Russell.

One aspect of this I don't think has been discussed is the timing of this in relation to to the theory that it's at least partially motivated as a way to increase jersey sales. If that's a factor, isn't this a sign he's staying? A number change would have no impact on jersey sales if he's playing for a new team the same year he changes his number.

I'm glad MJ said this. I thought this was a douche move by LeBron. A day after saying "no more 2010 talk" he came out with this spotlight stealing BS.

By the way MJ is a dick and that's what makes him great. Sometimes I wish LeBron was more of a dick than a diva, we probably would have won this game.

That's a really good point. If he was changing teams, then their would be no reason to change the number because there would be tons of new jerseys being purchased for 23 on whatever team. But since he's staying in Cleveland, changing numbers would give a lot of people an excuse to go out and purchase more LBJ apparel.

Although, the only problem is that is signature logo is based on the number 23 as well...of course it'd just give him the opportunity to reinvent his marketing altogether (read as: make lots of new stuff to sell).

Dick you actually watch the game?

I think it's pretty clear this whole thing backfired on LBJ :chuckles:

I mean it's slightly disrespectful to give up #23 then take Russell and Erving's number without thought of the same.

How's that humble pie taste King? lol
