Moneyball Comes to Cleveland

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wasn't a fan of giving a non-football guy control over the 53 man roster, but the hiring of Podesta is brilliant.

I'd say it's like Ford hiring Alan Mulally, an aircraft guy from Boeing, as Ford's new CEO in 2006. Lots of people said it was was a ridiculous move - that you need a guy with auto industry experience to run an auto company. They predicted disaster.

But it turned out that management acumen, brains, the ability to manage other people, and strategic vision transcended the particulars of an industry. He turned around a staggering company with a bunch of smart moves, and Ford surged to the point of being the only one of the Big 3 not to go bankrupt. Stock price increased more than tenfold at one point.

Podesta knows how winning sports franchises operate. He knows how to build a leadership team, and how to minimize internal conflict. And he comes to the Browns without any of the biases or baggage a football guy might bring.

If you're going to reboot, then you need to take a fresh look at everything and start from there. Don't know whether or not he will succeed, but he's a bold, sharp hire.

So take a shot every time we see his name and "innovative" in the same sentence?

We can also throw in Harvard, when talking about Sashi & DePodesta.

Got a pretty good sense of where the league stands with DePodesta, if for no other reasons than knowing the reasons he failed in Los Angeles as the General Manager. He was run out of town by an ownership group which was infinitely more inept than the current structure in Cleveland.

It was actually the guy that likely gave Magic AIDS, Frank McCourt. However, I'll like your post anyway.

God, the hot takes on The OBR make my head want to explode. I don't know why I even bother going over there anymore.

Enjoy the scorching "hot takes" from JMAC, however, he may want to consider a new profile pic.
