New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The issue I'm having with it is that, unlike most other shows in this genre, they really give you no reason to like any of these people. Bateman's character is just kind of an awful person. His wife is an awful person. His daughter sucks too.

When you watch Breaking Bad, Walt is a likable guy at the beginning, and it's entertaining to see how he slowly morphs into a terrible person as his success as a criminal fuels his ego after all his failures as a non-criminal. When you watch The Shield, you see Vic Mackey do some terrible things, but ultimately he's not an awful human being. He does care about catching criminals and stopping crime, and he cares about his family and friends.

I don't get that sense here. Bateman just seems to be a generally miserable person and we start the story when he's already been a criminal washing money for cartels for years.

I'm only two episodes in, though, so maybe it gets better. I don't hate it or anything, but it's hard to care about any of these people because none of them seem to have any redeeming qualities. The most likable guy was the cartel boss, which probably wasn't intentional. :chuckle:

I just finished it...I can agree with what you are saying here. I'd say it was a decent show...good enough for me to want to see it through.

Bonus: You don't have to feel pervy about checking out the daughter. She's 18 in real life.

I finished the season. I like it but I also feel like it's a bit like Bloodline. Meaning, it can go left and end up being completely awful next season. They escape death so many times. I always tend to love Jason Bateman's roles (although sometimes they seem to be somewhat the same). I think you root for him because the people around him are so despicable.

You all hated Skylar for some reason, I suspect you may find Wendy a little more awful.

For the record some of us 'fancied' Skylar - just setting the record straight.

People hated Skylar because, in the context of the show, Walt was the "hero" (at least for the first few seasons) and she was always doing everything in her power to stop him from doing awesome things. I think the hate for her was due to the sort of escapist nature of the show. We all rooted for Walt to do terrible things because, when he did, it was always awesome. Skylar was the wet blanket trying to slow him down and stop him, and so we disliked her.

Obviously, if you watch the show objectively, Skylar was the victim of an insane and eventually sociopath husband who essentially forced her to stay with him with threats. But of course, she also happily settled into that role after a time and was enjoying herself at the point when Walt got caught, so she certainly shares some of the end blame for everything that happened as well.

But yeah, I agree that the hate for Skylar is dumb and unfounded. That said, I understand where it comes from. Walt was the everyman who got to become a drug kingpin, and it was a hell of a lot of fun to watch unfold. Skylar stood in his way.

And I mean, I've re-watched this show with my current girlfriend and I had to expl

I think where the show turns for me, and I stop feeling for Marty is when we see that it was he that made the deal with the Mexicans and not his partner. I watched the first part assuming he was roped in or was unwitting player in this game and was doing his best to survive.

I did like Ruth and thought she was an afterthought towards the end. That was unfortunate.

Well this came out of nowhere. Castlevania is a a cartoon tv series on NetFlix? I guess they figure it's almost impossible to make a good movie out of a video-game Ip, but perhaps a show on a premium network? The reviews so far seem pretty good. Although season 1 is only 4 episodes.

I saw this one and was meh with it. it had enough content for 3 episodes only but stretched on for 4. I did enjoy the premise and hope they quicken the pace in season 2.

I'm starting 'The Leftovers' after 'Ozark' gave me nothing to connect with character-wise. The daughter is hot in a weird kind-of way, though.

A little confused at the moment to be honest. A lot of you rate this show extremely highly, right?

Its the best writing ever.

But that first season is essentially depression. Every epsidoe is capped by something awful happening. Please try to push through. The final epsidoe of the season is transcendent and then from there out, it's the best thing you'll ever watch. Glad you picked it up

Gotta agree with David. It's worth committing to, and is one of the better shows I've seen in a long time.

I teared up pretty often in 3 seasons. The characters and story is fantastic. There are some beautiful episodes. The finales are all epic.

Thanks @David. and @Ohdang. Excited to grind through season 1 and see where it takes me. Will report back as I dive further into it.
