New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I read some thought pieces on Barb. It seems some people identified with her in a real way.

Generally, it seems like people who were not popular in HS, or were awkward, are not popular with the opposite sex, were resentful of popular kids, or otherwise folks who carry crosses for not being "sellouts," saw themselves in her. You know... losers.

Now that I think on it I see it. People are so narcissistic these days that they are always making everything about themselves. I don't see the character that way. She is a judgmental wet blanket and slut-shamer. Not a great friend.

Barb's main role on the show was to cock-block her best friend.

Just finished season 1 of ST...I had forgotten how good it was. The show creators totally nailed the vibe they were going for and were so consistent in doing so.

I really can't afford to spend so much time watching season two quickly, but I am weak.

Y'all gotta finish Stranger Things season 2. So good.

This progression was enjoyable to me.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but I have to be honest... I'm about 5 episodes into Mindhunter and... I really don't understand the hype.

I really want to like it but there just isn't a ton of substance for me beyond psychological studies and the wordy interviews that go into graphic detail. Definitely not a lot of action and they really don't even tend to follow specific cases.

It also seems awkward when the characters constantly try to one up each other with sophisticated vocabulary. It just seems like it's trying too hard at times...

Maybe it's just me.

On a completely separate note, The Handmaid's Tale S1 was incredible. Started it because I was bored one day and had heard some good things. If you push through a few episodes, it really gets dark (in a good way).

It lives up to every bit of the hype. The season ends on an upswing that really had me wishing Season 2 was already out.

Highly recommend.

Finished Mr. Mercedes. Really liked it. Definitely going to check out the books now. Just a very solid detective/killer cat and mouse show. It's not perfect. There are a couple of moments that stretch realism a bit, and the killer falls into that "genius hacker" stereotype where he can get to anyone anywhere via tech, but overall I really enjoyed it and binged it over the course of a couple of days, which means it was doing something right.

Particularly good episode of curb

The acting in stranger things is a little.. Silly..

Episode 4. Maybe it's the editing. But it's.. Silly.

Just finished episode 4 on ST2 and I get what you are saying. All of the weird crying.

But I honestly have high hopes for these kids for future actors. That scene in episode 3 when the kid with the lisp was laughing in front of his Mom, I was dying.

Mr robot was great last week. Awful this week.

White rose and f society is just not an interesting story line. Unfortunately it's the main plot.

Curb has been phenomenal this season. Almost every episode has been great. I think the time off really helped Larry David recharge his batteries and come up with some fresh ideas.

I almost forgot who Barb was. She was the nerd that no one gave a shit about.

Except Nancy, because she always felt so bad she was the nerd no one cared about....

Steve is a fucking beast. Channeling Tom Cruise from Risky Business so well.

I loved him immediately for that, and hasn't stopped since.

They're all fantastic. Kid actors are the hardest to fine. They all nail it.

The problem is these roles becoming bigger than their careers. Where everyone always remembers them from these roles, and they don't get a chance to really strength their legs going forward.

Reminds me of the Goonies in a sense. All the kid actors in that movie nailed it too.

But only two that still really have a career today is Sean Astin (who is fucking killing it in this series) and Josh Brolin.

The tombstone in the cemetery in Shameless that had the description "he loved bacon" had my dying. :chuckle:

I turned it off in episodes one when the main guy is at the rock band concert with the girl he just met. Just felt like they were trying too hard with the dialogue and trying to be very smart. The main guy annoyed the fuck out of me
