Same Ol' Stone Age Tressel.
OSU is rolling, Pryor is slicing them up and for some reason here comes Joe Bauserman. Because lord knows we cant get enough Joe Bauserman and in the 2nd quarter no less. There was no reason to put the 2nd string QB in the game with just a 10pt lead in the 2nd quarter. It is no surpise the offense came out flat in the 2nd half because their rhythm had been completely thrown off. I'm will safely assume coaches named Stoops, Carroll and Meyer wouldnt have done what Tressel did.
Then in the 2nd half, especially after Navy stomps down the field in a 15 play 99yd drive against Tressel's precious defense. Tressel puts the clamps on Pryor and turns it into the Poof Herron and Brandon Saine show.
Entering the 4th quarter Pryor had thrown just 2 passes in the 2nd half after sitting the final 7minutes of the 2nd quarter. Way to get your developing QB reps with USC approaching Coach Sweater Vest.
And you wonder why there were 3 second half drops.
Pryor looks improved. His mechanics are better so he is accuracy is better which allows him to throw the ball into small windows which he did several times today.
The OL still stinks. They couldnt push Navy's front 7 off the ball despite outweighing them by an average of almost 40lbs. OSU, without Beanie Wells, cant run between the tackles and that will eventually spell doom.
Poof Herron is an average back with stiff hips and almost no wiggle. Saine is probably more talented but I dont think he is tough enough to run between the tackles if there were actually any holes.
This offense should be about Pryor's arm and Pryor's feet. Running Herron up the middle on consecutive plays in the red zone isn't playing to your strength or utilizing the talent on hand.
Where are the stars on defense? Where is the Malcolm Jenkins in the secondary? Where is the Laurinaitis at LB? I like Gibson and Hayward on the DL but if Ross Holman is arguably your 2nd best defensive player you have issues.
Anderson Russell.....:shakehead
The defensive backs as a group are soft again and overall I dont see a whole lot of elite speed. Navy skill players shouldnt be consistently beating the Buckeyes to the outside.
Tressel's philosophy and approach isnt conducive to winning championships in this day and age and I was a big Tressel supporter but I dont see the necessary changes that needed for OSU to compete on the national level being made.
USC is going to curb stomp them next week.
