Lateral quickness? he has great lateral quickness.. you don't need good lateral quickness to guard Centers... dude.
What Kevin Love are you watching?
I have watched him get burned by players who simply turn on the baseline or just leave him outside of ten feet just to see him standing and watching them go.
DUDE.
BTW don't know why some of you just try to debate on points you should know otherwise.
You absolutely do need laterial quickness to defend centers.
Do I really need to explain why?
You know as well as most that the centers in the game today are not slow plodding jump hook centers.

You just know that with all this chaos and doom, it would be vintage Cavaliers to end up sweeping the East and then pull off the greatest upset in NBA history lmao!

Like Griff said, for some reason we always seem to play better and step up when there is chaos and the backs against the wall.

This is why I drop a disagree whenever anyone says "it's over" or "we might as well start the rebuild now" or "it's hopeless."

I hate everything about this team right now, but I also believe that we could turn a corner after the trade deadline. There is still a LOT of basketball to be played.

You absolutely do. That’s why he gets killed in the pnr by guys who roll to the rim. He can’t recover from the pick because he can’t move laterally.

Yeah? are you sure about that? He has done well when switched again ball handlers... see Curry, numerous times.

His problem is recovering after hedging and that's not lateral quickness, that's straight line quickness.

He doesn't need great lateral quickness to check centres, he is faster than most centers he is matched up against. The problem is his team defense, particularly in PnR situations. He just hedges way too hard... it's not lack of lateral quickness, he just can't hedge hard, stop and recover to his man. He has problem with acceleration and declaration... have you seen him run? the guy runs and looks like he almost stops every few steps. Like he is on roller blades trying to stop.

Now your argument is that he is better suited to defend 4's because of his lack of lateral quickness? how does that make any sense? 4s are quicker than 5's right? so maybe your argument is that 5's are more involved in the PnR, and i'd agree, but against the Warriors where they run picks though 3-5, he is much better defending the PnR that involves Zaza rather than Green.

You are just not going to convince me that he has more problems defending 5's because of his lack of lateral quickness. The problem is that he can't defend the rim so our stupid coach tells him to hedge on every PnR and our players don't rotate well enough to help against penetration.

Love is indeed better at the 4 only because of his lack of reach, but not for the reasons you have pointed out. Love can play the very well, but just not in this scheme. I don't understand why we don't use him to defend on switches at all, or why he can't try to use the rule of verticality and defend similar to Green.

On offense he has a slight advantage but he is not quick or moves well on defense while out on the perimeter .
Down low he is over matched by bigger players.
It worked for a while having him down low but once teams saw it, they adjusted and just attack him, and everyone else in the paint, knowing there's no chance of a shot being thrown out.

Love played excellent defense against a lot of true centers even though I agree that is not what we should be asking from him. He has done an admirable job of bodying up and denying position because Love does understand how to use leverage in the paint. But, Steven Adams? The strongest center in the league, who really knows how to use it? Love is at a distinct disadvantage against that guy. He's going to get bullied all day every day if Lue stays with that match up. Lue needs to play matchups in some situations and this is one of them. We need Zizec or a body like him in that kind of a matchup.

True.. it would be so truly Cleveland and also typical for the Cavaliers since Lebron's return.

2 out of the 3 years we had as much drama as we have now in January..

2015:
Lebron just had taken his mid season "vacation" ... we where 19-20 .. Lebron and Love where having their weird "Fit in/out" stuff.. Everybody was like "wow look at how huge of a Mistake Lebron made going back to the Cavs.." .. we made some Trades going on to win 57 Games and take 2 Games of GSW without 2/3 our All Stars...

2016:
We just got Kyrie back from injury.. we just got blown out by GSW.. fired our Head Coach... all while GSW was on course for their 73-9 Season... We all now how that year did end up.

Now in 2017 we did not have much turmoil.. it was almost too quiet... look how we fared.. got mauled by GSW in the Finals..

Now maybe this Team needs to be shook... maybe they really need the adversity.

Maybe i am a overly hopefull fanatic but i really think this could really happen. We just need a few things to happen. Trade for some decent well fitting players that actually solve some of our Issues.

We need 1 Starting caliber 3&D Guard who can play next to IT and replace JR.. he is not playble anymore. And then we need a defensive Center who can actually protect the Rim and Paint. Does not have to be a guy like Deandre Jordan.. someone "Decent" would be enough. Any legit Defensive Center.. That in turn would allow Love to slide back to PF. And with a good defensive SG and Center IT and Love are covered for much better.

And then with half a Season to gel and get into a good grove we could be in much better shape when the Playoffs roll around. And all that while GSW looks alot more vulnerable than last year. The Rest of the Leauge has adapted to them. Most Teams can shoot threes now.. they are still the best Team but the gap has closed a bit. Enough that if we make a 2015 like Turn we could pull it off again.

I've been advocating starting Frye at the 5 and moving Kevin back to the 4. At least until we find a true center.

Having said that... I just saw a tweet from The Bullshit Whisperer from like 10 days ago. Pretty interesting.

Cavs are 16-1 when Frye plays at least 11 minutes... and 8-15 when TT plays 20 or more.

Yet Frye continues to ride the pine....

He makes the Cavs so much better. He really really exhausts the oppositions defense because along with Korver he just scares the opponent into defending so far out on the perimeter.

I don't understand why that says The Bullshit Whisperer. I typed in S A M A M I C O

SAN ANTONIO -- With a contentious team meeting apparently not enough to shake the Cleveland Cavaliers from their extended midseason slump, another loss finally convinced coach Tyronn Lue that it is time to shake up his lineup.

"I'm gonna make a change," Lue said after a 114-102 loss to the Spurs on Tuesday. It was the Cavs' 10th defeat in 13 games since Christmas Day.

Lue would not reveal which starter or starters he would target with the shuffle. However, besides LeBron James and Kevin Love, all three other positions could be switched in Isaiah Thomas, JR Smith and Jae Crowder.

Thomas shot 3-for-9 against the Spurs and had just two assists with three turnovers, racking up a plus-minus of minus-15 in 28 minutes.

Smith shot 0-for-4 from the field and 0-for-3 from 3 on Tuesday. He is 5-for-31 from 3 (16.1 percent) in the Cavs' past seven games.

Crowder had one of his better games of the season at San Antonio, with 13 points on 4 for 6 shooting and four rebounds.

If Lue chooses to go big by putting
Tristan Thompson
back at center and sliding Love back to power forward, Crowder would be ushered to the second unit.

Smith, who balked at his demotion earlier in the season when Dwyane Wade began the year as the starting shooting guard, told ESPN that he would hold no ill feelings and would accept a bench role now if it would help the team. He acknowledged that he isn't playing up to his standards and wants the team to play better.

At Sunday's practice, Lue declared that he was not changing his lineups because "it's not the best thing right now." Then Monday's meeting happened, with an explosive airing of grievances, as first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The meeting highlighted a division in the Cavs' locker room that has become apparent as the months have passed: the old guard, the players who were around for Cleveland's success the past several seasons, versus the new guard, the eight players added this season, multiple sources told ESPN.

Beyond the disappointment of Tuesday's loss, the fallout from Monday's discussion blanketed the Cavs locker room at the AT&T Center following the contest.

"Everybody wants accountability, but nobody actually wants to be held accountable," one player told ESPN. "The crazy thing is that it still all feels correctable."

Said another player, from the old guard faction of the roster: "There is no trust out there on the court. This is the worst it's been."

The Cavs will have Wednesday off and will practice Thursday ahead of Friday's home game against the Indiana Pacers, who are 3-0 against Cleveland this season.

"I mean, if we're going to speak out and talk, we got to back it up," Lue said after the loss to the Spurs. "And, I mean, we didn't do that tonight. We talked about it this morning. It could be healthy, but you've got to do something about it."

Lue repeated his mantra of being concerned with his team's "connectedness" above all else as it tries to not only navigate its losing streak but also manage the uneasiness that comes with the looming Feb. 8 trade deadline.

"When it got tough, we just got to stay together," Lue said. "Some guys are frustrated because they missed shots. Some guys are frustrated because they can't get their rhythm. Some guys are frustrated when they get scored on. So I think it's a combination of a lot of things. But for the most part, [we've] just got to stay together and continue to play the game."
