OSU #2 in getting players drafted

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State cornerback Ashton Youboty will pass up his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

Youboty was a first-team All-Big Ten selection and has been projected as going anywhere from the late first round to the third round.

"I just hope he gains the draft status he is capable of gaining," Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said Sunday.

Youboty is the second Buckeyes junior to declare for the draft. Wide receiver Santonio Holmes, a likely first-round choice, said after the team's Fiesta Bowl victory over Notre Dame on Jan. 2 that he would enter the draft.
That's probably a mistake on his part, but no huge loss for osu. If he goes in the third, and had he stayed he would of went in the first, he'll likely never make up the difference in his career...

This almost guarentees 8 Buckeyes will be drafted this spring.

Bad move on his part? Getting a contract that will pay him millions of dollars...bad move.

Another year isnt guaranteed to help your draft status. Lienart lost millions for staying, others have done this as well by not performing as expected, getting hurt or other players passing them up.

I said probably, not definitely. It could be a good move. If he goes in round 1, it definetly was, although I can't see him going that high. If he goes in round 3 or later, we'll never know if it was a good move, as we won't know if he would of gotten an injury or been able to improve his draft status. All we'll know for sure is that he past up the shot to improve his status. If you're not a first rounder or high second, it is usually recommended that you stay in school, although you're certainly taking a risk if you do.

how the hell are you going to compare matt lienart to youboty??? matt was peaking last year, he couldnt get much better, youboty on the other hand was getting better.

next year the bucks will most likely contend for the national title and with that he would have been in the big game and would have been able to show his stuff. i think another year would have been beneficial for him but thats the risk you take.

the bucks are losing with this, he was our best cb in my opinion.

Im comparing their situations..

If you go in the first day, I think you make the jump Esp if there is a need foryou to get that money.

Every person's situation is different, so if you need the cash then that is something else you need to consider.

honesty is something coaches need to have and jt is very honest.
The beauty about having a high character coach like JT is not only does he run a class program that you can be proud of, but his integrity actually helps to translate to wins on the field. For one, recruiting. JT has a tremendous reputation among high school coaches in ohio for his honesty and character. Don't think that doesn't influence the kids who aren't sure which school to go to. Two, it helps to foster the team first, family style of program he strives for.

more importantly jt makes osu football players better people. excuse mo.

I dont think I agree with that..

Im not here to start a bash war because I dont like Ohio State, but we all know OSU's police blog is up there among the highest in the nation.

Til that is toned down, you cant say OSU is a high class place.

dont get players from the cooper era mixed with the tressel era. name a couple of players whom played under tressesl that have gotten into trouble, id like to know.

Im not going to search for it, but there has been atleast ten players since Tressel took over that has been arrested.

come on and find it. thats like a girl going up to you and sits on your lap with a skirt starts humping you and then stops. not cool.

another thing you have to remember is that he probably didnt recruit those players, this senior class are his recruits.

Whatever you like...Im not going to sit here and argue with you about it...

Some probably weren't his recruits, Im not sure...I wasnt paying attention to what class they were in, but it's still under his tent, you know what Im saying?

Either way..it doesnt matter.

There have been arrests since JT took over. Some his players. Some not. What is not the case is that OSU is among the highest in the nation in arrests. Many, many college football teams have players arrested at the same rate or higher. The difference is OSU is high profile and the arrests are big news, especially in Ohio. It is the nature of the beast when you get a group of 100 male jocks between the ages of 18 and 23.

I've used this example before, but it's a good one so I will use it again. Toledo's football team had arrests all the time. It made the last page of the Toledo Blade. And that was in Toledo. It didn't make the papers anywhere else, even in Ohio. Yet if a Buckeye got a DUI, that was on the front page of the Blade and everyone was talking about it.

ahh, i only read the articles from the internet and unless something happens for the day i read them than i wouldnt know.

the only player i can remember was mike doss for gun charges.

That happened when Doss was with the Colts. As A Mac puts it, that didn't happen in JT's house.
