Pat Riley Karma Safari / DWade to sign with Chicago

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It depends what he wants financially. If he wants a reasonable salary (~$12 mil per year) and the Heat don't want to pay it, I'd try and combine whatever assets necessary to make a sign-and-trade work. If he wants something crazy, then let him look elsewhere. But, I would love to have him here at a reasonable price.

The question this year is:

w/o Whiteside, or Durant (guessing)
an unreliable Bosh

Do you really want to pay $20M/year for Wade anymore if you're the Heat?
I mean if they don't sign Durant and lose whiteside.. they gotta spend it somewhere..

But wade, lebron came and helped you, now it's time to return the favor.

In a few more days we should see Wade's father in a Cleveland Cavs shirt.

Yeah.. let's see what offers Wade can get...

If Wade can't get more than $15M/yr starting, I think he'll try to work his way to the Cavaliers. But yeah, if he can get $20M, he'll take it.

With the cap spike Wade will command an absurd amount.

Yeah I think Wade will get a high per year deal... But a short 2 year deal or something like that. I think he will chase money for a rich 2 or 3 year deal to the highest bidder... And then after that join lebron as a vet minimum type guy on the quest for more rings.

Totally agree...

~$12M makes a great deal of sense, especially since Cavs will likely offer him a player friendly contract - I mean, that's a given, right? I would think LeBron would negotiate his deal directly.

I could see Wade getting up to a $60M/4 deal from the Cavs in a sign-and-trade.

That'd be $14M starting salary with 4.5% raises, so Cavs would need to be at $103M before signing Wade. That'd likely entail a three-team trade of Shumpert+Mo+pick with the third team getting Shumpert and Miami taking back a Cleveland pick.

We'd likely be done in the offseason though since it's unlikely we'd use the TPE for anything at that point.

You have to think though, he did this last year around this time because he forced Riley's hand to give him what he wanted, which ultimately lead to a 1-year deal so he could cash in this summer.

He's due for one last big deal, and you gotta think he stays in Miami with it. There are still some players out there that love the idea of staying on one team.

Wade has three rings. He's won enough for Miami and Riley, so I assume this is a perfect ploy for him to get the contract he wants.

I'll still hold out hope, though. Because he would be amazing here with Irving, Love, and of course LeBron.

Tough to see him leave, but if he did.. I'd definitely say it's to come play with LeBron again.

I agree..

But here's the question...

From Wade's perspective which is better:

$60M/4 from the Cavs (likely retire in year 4).
or,
$40M/2 from the Knicks?

Because if it's me, I'm thinking the Cavs deal is slightly better. If he takes a $20M starting salary on a 2-year deal, then he's done at 36; no team will sign him at that age for big money.. So his earning potential would very likely be wiped out.

Whereas the $60M Cavs deal would be guaranteed money. He only has to play for 3 years and some change and he could effectively retire/bought out in the last year and still get paid.

So in this instance, while I think other teams will surely offer a higher single year salary, I think the Cavs will offer the most guaranteed money. He'd also be playing for a competitor, with his brother, and he knows the team will take care of him no matter what -- because LeBron.

Gotta think the Cavs have a real shot here.

Whether we get him or not, I think the writing is on the wall though. Dwyane Wade might really be leaving. I don't think this is just a ploy. I think he really will if Riley tests him. I will enjoy that a lot.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Miami wanted Shumpert and/or Mo. Shumpert fits in excellently with Goran Dragic. Dragic loves fast running mates who don't need the ball to be effective. That's Shumpert. Dragic needs a better defensive guard beside him, that's Shumpert.

Mo would be less likely, but if they really want to rebuild, he's an expiring contract. I think the trick is going to be finding a way to get Miami an upcoming draft pick. I think there is a possibility that Miami can pick from Shumpert+Mo+Cleveland pick (I think the next available decent pick we have is 2019, correct me if I'm wrong) or a Cleveland pick in the future + a pick from another team that Miami gets in exchange for Shumpert and Mo.

I still think it's unlikely, but if Wade is willing to settle for a three or four year deal for $12-$15 million a season, I think it becomes a strong likelihood that Wade is a Cav next season. Assuming that happens, I think it's there is a strong likelihood that the Cavs are repeating as NBA champions in the 2016-17 season.

Miami has exactly $42M in cap space, and that's assuming they renounce their rights to Deng and Joe Johnson (remember: they cannot sign Whiteside to a max AND bring those guys back -- doesn't work that way).

So..

Scenario 1) They sign Whiteside to the max; but lose Deng and Johnson. They have ~$20M in cap space. Does Riley spend that on Wade, or does he try to rebuild the team?

Scenario 2) They miss out on Whiteside, sign Al Horford instead. That leaves $9.1M in remaining cap space... Again, no Deng, no Johnson. Adios Wade.

Scenario 3) The sign Durant (lol)... see above.

Scenario 4) Heat Retool the Roster.. Hypothetically: they let Whiteside walk, re-sign Wade to $60M/4Y ($14M) deal, bring back Joe Johnson at $15M ($7.n x2); bring back Luol Deng for $40M/3Y ($12.5M); bring in Pau Gasol $26M ($8.5 x3). They run it back with Gasol instead of Whiteside.

In scenarios 1-3, I can see Wade coming to Cleveland. I think Wade is hoping for something more along the lines of Scenario #4.

I think Whiteside is gone for sure, but them signing Gasol isn't a slam dunk. You'd think the Cavs and Warriors are both ahead of Miami for his services.

Riley has to rebuild at some point, but he still has a pretty good Dwayne Wade on his roster.

I'm just going to assume still Wade goes back for what he wants, and the Heat work around that.
