Pat Riley Karma Safari / DWade to sign with Chicago

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yes exactly, it's one of the points I was trying to get across. Wade helps Kyrie and Love, not the reverse. He worked excellently well with Chris Bosh.
I honestly think the lineup of Kyrie-JR-Wade-LBJ-Love could put up 1.7 points per possession, given time. I know that sounds insane. It really does. But you have two knockdown three point shooters, an ability to get the ball in the post with ease, an ability to drive with ease, and five high efficiency scorers.

Add to that a siiiiiccckkk bench. Mo/Delly, RJ, Shump, and TT. If we need defense you can bring TT off the bench for Love, and if we need even more defense you can bring Kyrie out for Shump and move Wade/LBJ to the point guard.

Fuck, even if GSW does get KD, I think with Wade the Cavs are still the favorite to repeat.

Wade makes those around him better. He doesn't do it at the God gifted level of LeBron, but even some of his intangibles are better than LB's.

The guy is cool as a cucumber, haven't you seen the commercials? :chuckle:

But seriously, Wade helped LB to become a better leader. I have zero worries getting him. Kyrie and Wade together, would be, wow... He'd help Kyrie a lot, in ways I don't think LB can quite reach him.

There's more Wade in Kyrie, I think he'd relate better to him.

I guess specifically I'm wary at the prospect of a GS Backcourt consisting of Klay, Draymond and Durant overwhelming us on length.

There's nothing we'd be able to do about that anyway. Durant necessitates James guarding him, which leaves Tristan on Draymond.

I realize this is by no means set in stone but with the news coming out of OKC regarding Ibaka I must admit I'm more than a little worried about going that small. If that happens I would actually say that getting an elite perimeter defender to hold Durant in check becomes our top priority. If that happens I expect us to pursue the Butler deal hard

Hmm...

Durant definitely makes them better... But, it also means they'd be far less efficient on offense and would operate at a slower pace as well. It's not like Durant is very good against the Cavs.

But I agree, Jimmy Butler would help against the Warriors who would seem to have the Western Conference on lock with a Durant trade.

Just one final note....

I think if we measure the likelihood of certain things happening, certain outcomes; then the Cavs have a greater chance of signing Kevin Durant than Dwyane Wade.

I say that because if all the talk of Durant leaving OKC is true, and his preferred destination is Golden State; then it makes no sense for him or for the Thunder to go there rather than doing a sign-and-trade to the Cavs for Kevin Love.

1) Durant would look like a bitch joining the guys who bounced him after being up 3-1.
2) Durant would be "the man" sooner, rather than later, on the Cavs.
3) Durant fits our offense far more than he does the Warriors, who don't run iso sets at all.
4) Durant will never be the #1 option playing alongside Steph Curry in a Kerr system, but could be alongside Kyrie Irving.
5) Durant wouldn't be wrecking the Thunder franchise.
6) He could leave and wouldn't be villainized.
7) Love would play with Westbrook, his favorite guy in the NBA and who he thinks is the MVP of the league.
8) And we'd get our second-generation tandem solidified in a Kyrie/Durant pairing.
9) If you asked Durant who the better point guard is between Irving and Curry; I'd bet money he'd say Kyrie Irving.

That's neither here nor there; just saying, trading Love for Durant in a sign-and-trade is easier to do because of the Pat Riley factor.

I know this is the Wade thread, but just want to offer some perspective. If we're going to sign-and-trade, then it makes sense to consider all the options....

K.. back to Wade.

Why you gotta go and lay out logical arguments, man? :chuckle:

If you're OKC and are losing Durant, then you have to make a move to try to keep Russ in town. If Russ and Love are as close as it sounds then that might be the ticket, and if you can get a good young SF at 9 then you probably won't lose too much ground in the West.

Yep.. it just makes too much sense for OKC... and for Durant, you're literally guaranteeing yourself a ring, while being the #1 option on offense. Umm.. yeah, why not go to Cleveland?

Please. Not only will he not come here, I don't want him even if he wanted to. Just another high-usage offensive player, NO THANKS. If we bring in anybody it should a defensive specialist.

Fuck D-Wade.
Man I completely disagree with you here. I think Wade would be an absolute God send

Remember watching the Cavs all season and thinking 'why the hell does everyone stand around.' ESPECIALLY when LBJ has the ball in the post. It seems like RJ is the only one who ever cuts. Wade is one of the best slashers and off ball SGs in the league, and one of the best players to pair with LBJ (they did win 2 rings). Plus they have a great chemistry together and Wade is a great perimeter defender.

Plus Wade has that killer instinct in him. I have no doubt he would shit all over Klay in the finals. He is just more of a competitor and less of a nerd. Wade KILLED it in the playoffs last year as the #1 option, and really drilled his 3's in the playoffs.

Can you fucking imagine Wade and Kyrie against the nerds? Look, I love JR, but he isn't exactly an elite player at creating offense. Wade is. Where do you hide Curry? On Wade? On Kyrie. lmfao

Curry might honestly be a net negative in that series. Our guards would run circles around him.

Wade is still one hell of a player. And to have him as the third option?

Wade being in the starting lineup likely moves Tristan to the bench, not JR Smith.

James plays the 4 next to Wade more often than not.

Wade coming to the Cavs is entirely about winning the title next year....

Wade makes James better. Wade can teach Kyrie a lot. I think the move makes us unquestionably the favorites assuming Durant doesn't go to Golden State.
Honestly even if Durant goes to GSW I would bet on us if we get Wade.

If we get Wade and Durant stays in OKC and we stay healthy I think it would take a mini miracle for us to not repeat. Wade makes us markedly better. That's a scary thought for everyone else.

Pls LBJ work your magic

What is the most we can offer Wade realistically?... Sorry for being lazy...lol

Wade would be an absolute dream... Not only is he a solid vet who is perfect under pressure, but, he makes James' leadership abilities much more robust, well-tempered, less-moody, and simply brings with him calmness and stability.

The James-Spoelstra relationship was mediated by D. Wade.
The James-Riley relationship was mediated by D. Wade.

Now obviously, Ty Lue has found a way to take on that role of the superstar whisperer, but nonetheless, James can still be moody. Wade fixes that, bringing accountability, authority, and leadership - and has no problem at all ceding that authority to the proper chain of command (Spo).

I just think Wade being on this team makes infinite sense for the Cavs, even if there is an infinitesimal chance of it happening.

The ways to get Wade on this team:

1) Taxpayer MLE ($3.6M)... Massive paycut for Wade, but we could sign him outright.

2) Full MLE ($5.6M).. Again, massive paycut for Wade, James would need to take a huge one-year paycut as well to make this work, but I have no doubt he would. We'd also lose Mozgov, almost assuredly.

3) Trade Exception ($10M). This is the optimal solution. Cavs could potentially get the 21st pick tonight, if Stein is accurate (and I don't think he is), package that with a future pick and get Dwyane Wade back. Might need to include Shump, but Heat might not want to take on salary. This solution requires that the Cavs end up below the apron, which they can, since James can sign for whatever he wants -- but again, this necessitates James taking less money, and us likely losing Mozgov.

The max offer Cavs can send Wade is $43M/4Y with an option in the 4th year, which isn't bad for a guy who will be 35 by mid-season next year. My guess would be the Heat are likely to offer him $45M/3Y with no options. If that's the case, and Wade envisions himself retiring in 2-3 years, then the Cavs deal is really not much worse at all as he can retire in the final year of his deal and still very likely get paid.

Again... all of this is very difficult to imagine, but Wade and Riley have yet to sit down and hash out a contract. We're about one week away from that happening, and if things go as they did last year, I think Wade bolts.

Lastly, I don't think Wade and Riley like each other any longer... That's just my guess.

The Dwayne Wade thread.. Oh boy.

I'd obviously take this guy. I was a pretty big fan of Wade's earlier in his career, but grew hating him more and more as his career went on, especially after he helped lure LeBron away from Cleveland.

But all of that means nothing now. We are champions and we are in the driver's seat to make it right back to the finals next year, and Dwayne Wade on this team makes us nearly unstoppable.

I find it hard to believe he leaves Miami.. I know it makes sense to leave a rebuilding team and head towards a title contender, especially when your best friend is the main player on said team, but it just doesn't seem realistic.

Call me crazy, but I think the Cavs would have better chance at acquiring Durant than Wade leaving Miami.

But it would definitely be amazing to have him here. He would for sure start, so anyone who believes otherwise can put that to bed.

Irving
Wade
James
Love
Thompson

That starting five is so deadly. Then you bring JR off the bench with Shump and company, maybe add another veteran who wants to ring chase.

Too good to be true, my friends.

~$43M/4Y.. I put it in those terms because I imagine this will be Wade's last deal, so he shoud look to maximize a deal. Our $10M starting salary should trump a $15M starting salary if that salary is only over 2 years; i.e., $43M/4 > $30M/2. Also, Wade could retire in that last year, or have an agreement to get bought-out/stretched in the final year.

So if we do a S&T for Wade, Durant, or anyone for that matter, we are locked into having to be at about $112 million hard cap(also known as the luxury tax apron, set $4 million above the luxury tax line which is $108 million this year). And that figure would have to be achieved immediately to execute the S&T, we couldn't do the deal be way over that number and then slowly unload contracts.

If we got Wade for roughly 11 million per year, the combined salaries of LBJ, KI, KL, TT, Wade, and one of Channing or Shump would be close to 112 right there. You'd have to trade one of Channing or Shump, plus renounce the cap holds and rights to Delly, JR, and Moz.

Now, doing something that drastic would be worth it for Durant.
But for 34 year old Dwayne Wade?

And yes, there are iterations of the Wade scenario you could work around(ie. trade Shump and Frye to cap space teams and keep JR, etc) but you would still be locked in to about $112 million(the luxury tax apron) and would essentially have a 6 man team + minimum salary guys filling out the roster.

So while it is absolutely possible, one has to question if it would be worthwhile for Dwayne Wade. And keep in mind, this is a guy who in a compromise took $20 million this past season and had an excellent season on the court. So even getting him down to $11 million per year would be quite a feat given that there will likely be teams willing to go much higher. Now would those teams have his best friend LBJ and the best shot at a title? No. But pride still comes in to play, so I'm just not sure this would work on either end.
