James Posey is planning on opting out of his contract in Boston today, do you think it would be a good idea for the Cavs to go after him? Better yet, do you think Ferry will go after him?

Posey showed that he is an excellent player in the playoffs and has a few championship rings which could bring some veteran leadership to our team. We all know that he can stretch the defense with his three point shot which would open up the floor for LeBron. He is also a great defender who can D up some good players on other teams which will take some pressure of LeBron and let him focus on taking over the game on the offensive end...:hyper:

Also, Posey is originally from Cleveland, maybe he would like to win a championship at home...

Maximus will even throw in a free Hummer to get Posey here.

Re: James Posey is opting out of his contract...

I think Ferry burned that bridge last year when they chose Sasha. He has no reason to leave the Celtics, they're stacked, they just won a championship. He's just going to be making a little bit more $$$ with them next year.

Re: James Posey is opting out of his contract...

Posey is only a perfect complimentary role player to LeBron James... It's just as important to upgrade the role players as it is to get that star...

Re: James Posey is opting out of his contract...

Depending on his price he'd be a nice addition. He's good spot up shooter, he'd be back playing in Cleveland, and he's a good defender. Can't ask for a much better fit.

would love to have him here

Wanted Posey here last season and he would be open to being on the CAVs given he is from Northeast Ohio (Twinsburg).

Re: James Posey is opting out of his contract...

I'd definitely like to have Posey here, maybe the allure of starting might sway him. I thought I recalled reading that Posey wanted to return to the Celtics somewhere though.

Re: James Posey is opting out of his contract...

If we could offer him a starting spot he might consider it, but where would he play? I'm not sure if he's quick enough to guard SG's. We'd have to move Damon, Sasha or someone though if we were to be bringing him in.

Re: James Posey is opting out of his contract...

I doubt we'd offer him a decent contract ($5m), especially because of the luxury cap doubler. For Artest? Sure. For someone still with upside like JR Smith? Perhaps.

Yes, of course we could use him, but I doubt we can afford him.

Re: James Posey is opting out of his contract...

I think I've mentioned it a few times, but, Posey wanted to coem to Cleveland last offseason, and itwas a Sasha or Posey type situation then ...
We chose Sasha, and although we now need that perimeter defensive help that Posey could provide, I think we lost our chance at that opportunity last offseason.

Posey is looking to maximize his earning potential coming off a successful season, and post season last year ...but, after you win a championship with a team ...both the team and the player enjoy the opportunity to come back and defend that title ....I think ultimately after all is said and done, he ends up back in Boston. That's just my personal take.

Along those same lines, though ...I think Pietrus offers us a chance to get similar results and maybe save a little cash as well ....Mike Brown is going to push Ferry hard to try and get us a quality perimeter defender on the roster by the start of the season ...don't know who that ultimately might turn out to be, but, it's a need that Brown has towards the top of his list ...

As I've said ...this offseason and even the timeframe up until the trade deadline will offer us multitudes of different options on how to reconstruct our roster .....but just hearing how we were ready to offer Wally to New Jersey gives you an idea just how much Dan Gilbert is ready and willing to extend us in terms of dollar commitments longterm above and beyond the cap figure ..... that is an encouraging sign for those whpo may have doubted me when I said that Gilbert has the green light on in terms of adding salary in order to win a championship....

Don't worry, it's not like that's the first one he's given out...

Remember, Wesley was going to just retire... Max talked him out of it..;)
