Nugs extended the qualifying offer to him at the end of June.

and I have heard rumblings that the Nets have showed some interest but they have signed a few guys that would make his addition unlikely at this point. Seems like a lot of teams are worried about his character. He almost seems like another Larry Hughes to me although I kind of like his game.

Nuggets Extend Qualifying Offer to J.R. Smith
The Denver Nuggets have made a qualifying offer to restricted free agent J.R. Smith , Nuggets Vice President of Basketball Operations Mark Warkentien announced today.
and I have heard rumblings that the Nets have showed some interest but they have signed a few guys that would make his addition unlikely at this point. Seems like a lot of teams are worried about his character. He almost seems like another Larry Hughes to me although I kind of like his game.

From what I have read, it appears that Posey is waiting for someone to offer him a 4th season at the MLE guaranteed. Perhaps, the CAVs can offer Posey a 4th and maybe a 5th season that is incentive based where he would have to play at least 70 games and for the CAVs to win at least 55 games in seasons 3 and 4 of his contract in order for it to be guaranteed the following season -- otherwise the 4th and 5th season's would be at the CAVs option.

Still holding out hope for Posey. I realize folks are more than ready to jettison Wally, but his departure would leave a big hole @ SG that Posey would be able to fill.

Which means other teams are unlikely to try to make Gibson an offer, but it also means Gibson's agent can ask for the full MLE.
But as players like Eddie House and James Jones sign we run out of viable alternatives.
Will Ferry pay Daniel the full MLE, or will Gibson tell his agent to just get a more reasonable deal done to prevent a Varejao holdout situation? Or will he end up taking the qualifying offer?
One thing of concern is that his QO must be minuscule, and it'd be a shame to sour our relationship with Gibson by putting him in a position where he felt forced to take it.
This is a situation where patience isn't going to help. We need to convince Gibson and his agent to accept a fair offer.

Paying the full MLE for Boobie is wayyyyyyyyy too much to give.
Three to four million per year in the range of a 3/4 12-16 million dollar deal is the max I go.

I agree....don't throw too much money at him. I just hate how he MUST be a Cav next year and that is only to keep LBJ happy. Had he not been liked by him so much he would probably be great S&T bait. With that said, it is good to have guys like Boobie on your team. A lot of fans don't take into consideration that those people with no character issues are great people to have on your base for a franchise. If Boobie gets a bit better(which I expect) and we keep him for a while, he will be a priceless veteran.
