man the more I look at our roster the more I think we can win the world series
I too would prefer him further down. Take some pressure off and just get on base.My lineup:
LF Brantley
3B Ramirez
SS Lindor
DH Encarnacion
RF Bruce
1B Santana
2B Kipnis
CF Chisenhall
C Gomes
If Bruce doesn't drop off too much from his hot streak, I'd consider having him 3rd, and moving Lindor down to 6, 7, or 8. Also, if Kipnis looks like himself over the remainder of the season, I'd swap him and Lindor.
Is it critical to have Chisenhall's bat in the lineup?
I don't really think it is.
Just depends on how well he hits when he comes back.
If he's the .954 OPS guy of earlier this year, then yes, it would be critical to have that in the lineup.
If he's the .767 OPS guy of last year or the .746 OPS guy of his career, then no. You just play Zimmer at that point.
Well this is starting to change shape, so I will give a new update version in my opinion.
First off I think Salazar will be off the playoff roster since he has't been able to keep his stuff together.
C: Gomes/Perez
1B/DH: Santana, EE
2B: Ramirez
SS: Lindor
3B: Urshela
RF: Bruce
CF: Chisenhall
LF: Jackson
Bench: Brantley, Zimmer, Guyer, Kipnis
I know that seems a bit strange, but guys like Brantley and Kipnis may not get a lot of at bats before the playoff start so at least at the start of the playoff we may see guys like Kipnis and Brantley coming off the bench. Zimmer will be one of the bench guys since Chisenhall has a better bat overall at the moment. Now I see the bench being used a lot since Zimmer would be a lot better as a pinch runner/defensive replacement late innings.
Now that will leave us 11 pitchers to use
Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Tomlin, Clev, Allen, Miller, Shaw, Otero, McAllister and Olson. Clev, McAllister and Otero will end up being the long relievers, while Tomlin will be the fourth starter if need be.
At least in the first round I am leaving off Salazar, Breslow and Goody, going with Olson instead as another lefty.
If they are healthy, there is a 100% chance Kipnis and Brantley both start at 2B and LF. Even if they only come back a week before Game 1 of the ALDS.
You left Joe Smith off the pitching staff. He'll be there over McAllister.
They're also going to give Salazar every possible opportunity to get healthy too. If he is, they'll go with him over Tomlin.
I forgot about Smith, but either way Tomlin will not be left off the roster. Clev will be off the roster before Tomlin.
Agree to disagree.
Clevinger has absolutely earned his spot.
It's not that he hasn't earned a spot, but so has Tomlin with the way he has pitched lately. Goody and Olson have also earned a spot, but still could be left off. This is a good thing to have at the end of the day.
Francona will choose Tomlin over Clev. Now also a 5 game series you don't need a 5th starter regardless so Clev is the odd man out in round 1. Now if you need more pitching depth in the next two rounds, it will be easy to change the group if Kipnis and Brantley are back up to speed.

And even if you want to point out that lone Tomlin start as some beacon of success, Clevinger has been better in the immediate short-term. Clev has gone 6 shutout innings his each of his last two starts, racking up 15 strikeouts along the way.
I really don't see tomlin getting the nod over clevinger. Clevinger is just flat out better than tomlin.
Tito loves Tomlin. Tito trusts Tomlin.
I would start Clevinger over Tomlin too but Tito won't.... not a chance.
And if you disagree, then you haven't been following the Indians all that closely since Tito arrived. Tomlin is by far Tito's favorite and most trusted player....
