Potential Playoff Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bruce has been raking since joining the club, but you have to think that will average out over time. I believe he was acquired to be the 4th outfielder and provide depth to finish the regular season then platoon and pinch hit in the postseason. If everyone is healthy, I think you'll see Zimmer, Brantley, and Chis in the outfield. Against a lefty, maybe Bruce plays in right in place of Chis.

Why would they specifically sub in Bruce against a lefty?

If anything, I'd assume that's when he sits for sure.

I don't know the splits on Bruce, I was just going on past experience that Chisenhall is always out against lefties. My bad!

Left/Right Splits

v. RHP
Chisenhall .906 OPS in 168 ABs
Bruce .897 OPS in 338 ABs
Brantley .856 OPS in 218 ABs
Jackson .734 OPS in 120 ABs
Zimmer . 724 OPS in 220 ABs
Guyer .576 OPS in 54 ABs

v. LHP
Chisenhall 1.071 OPS in 42 ABs
Jackson 1.024 OPS in 106 ABs
Bruce .732 OPS in 140 ABs
Guyer .713 OPS in 105 ABs
Brantley .701 OPS in 117 ABs
Zimmer .633 OPS in 73 ABs

If you're going strictly off splits, then it should be Brantley LF, Chisenhall CF and Bruce RF against RHP.

Assuming Lonnie's LH splits this year is just small sample size noise, against LHP it should be Jackson and Guyer and then whichever one of Bruce/Brantley they're most comfortable with against that night's pitcher.

Zimmer's speed and defense will allow him to get into most playoff games as a sub, but he's the worst overall hitter of the six options right now.

Should we start operating under the assumption that Brantley isn't returning for the playoffs? As much progress as Miller and Kipnis are making at the monent, Brantley isn't even able to run right now with only 22 games left in the season.

I expect Brantley back in late September with a weekish left in the season.

Based on what though?

Time table for the type of injury he had unless the didnt actually give us the true diagnosis of the ankle injury. He was on machines a few days ago, which means he should be back to land running this weekend area. Then two weeks of rehab type stuff, he should be ready before the season ends unless the injury isn't a high ankle sprain/a really severe grade of one that may require a surgery rather than just rehab.

It should be 6 weeks from the injury, which happen on Aug 9th, so coming back in late September is a normal time frame. So not gut @DJTJ just logic from the information that is given to us.

It hasn't actually been said by Tito that Salazar's move to the pen is permanent -- has it? It could be more of a stint to see if he can get command back; if he does well out of the pen, perhaps he sees a start or two. Depending on how those goes, perhaps he gets in the playoff rotation.

Just seems like there are a few pieces of information to gather before that's definitively determined.

Salazar won't be on the playoff roster. He's the 6th man in the rotation....

Indians skipped his next start and instead asked him to pitch a simulated game, he refused, which pissed everybody off.

Indians staff, in response, said they'd put him in the bullpen and do the best they can to get him a 2-3 inning outing in mop up time but there's no guarantees when that'll be.

It's the same thing with Brantley and Kipnis. They can't play any rehab games because the Minor League season is over and the Indians are playing meaningful games. If these guys aren't back very soon, and perform well immediately, I don't think they have a spot on the playoff roster.

I love Tito but if he really trusts Tomlin over Clev in the postseason, then he's a fucking dumbass.

Since I've been on the Tito picking Tomlin over Clevinger crusade, I want to make it clear, I'm a huge Clevinger fan and I would absolutely start him over Tomlin in a playoff game. I just don't think Tito will.... I hope I'm wrong.

Brantley I can see coming back cold and being on the roster. Kipnis, with how he has peformed, I do not.

What the hell is with Salazar? Is he just being mental about the elbow or what? I remember reading he was medically cleared but he himself does not feel right.

Buck Showalter went out of his way to say good things about the Tribe. Not just the players but the farm system, etc....
