I get harboring resentment over historical events, but it loses some of its impact when you weren't even alive for the events in question.

I'll tell you, I've suggested the exact same logic in the past and was heavily disagreed with. Watch swinging that standard around.

Right.

There is this weird over-reaction in the media against white people. I don't sense this from ANY other race when I actually talk to them in person, but there is a big anti-white narrative going on and it's very frustrating.

Maybe it's just the power of being behind a keyboard or whatever, but there is just a lot of animosity towards white people right now being driven by the media.

Maybe there's a lot of really fucking dumb white people out there who don't get it. Or maybe it really pays for the media to continue driving a wedge between races.

I've felt the same, but I've been told we're imagining shit man. *shrug*

"Nothing specifically personal, but I am very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend,"-Terry Frei.
this was Frei's final article submitted to the Denver post....according to sources.
It is a rough draft as it never made it to the editor.

JAPANESE PISS ALL OVER MEMORIAL DAY
Although the US and its allies initially was able to defeat and declare victory over the axis powers in what is now known was World War II.. Japanese Takumo Soto overturned the war by winning the 2017 Indianapolis 500. The Great American race. Soto Edged out American ally Brazillian Helio Castroneves(who failed us all).
It is a sad day for America ,knowing now that we lost the war on Memorial day and must meet Soto's Terms. It is really a slap in a face to all Americans, as we know, Memorial day is all about winning.

Well, one person's "check your privilege" is another person's "quit driving wedges."

I thought the wedge was for lobbing not driving?

Edit: I could understand "quit lobbing wedges" or even "Quit jiggerin nibliks".

but "quit Driving wedges" shows a complete lack of understanding regarding checking ones privilege

We need a facepalm rating! :D

I understand the concept of checking one's privilege. It's not the same thing as race division.

It's a little bit annoying and overused, but the point is cogent. Some people have more advantages in life than others and should be willing to acknowledge it.

Doesn't necessarily relate to race. It is what it is.

Either way...one can understand what that means and still move on and not resent someone else for having what they have. Lots of people are given the world on a silver platter and fuck it all up.

Really -- is the guy a Jap, or a Jap?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't personally understand the references, so I'm trying to answer the question as I read it, which is, as it reads literal.

The winner's name is Takuma Sato, he was born in Tokyo. Beyond that, I dunno where he lives now, if/when he moved stateside ever or what not. That's all I found in the brief bit I looked.

But to assign guilt to a collective of people based on their skin color is definitively racism. It serves no one. Not white people, not black people. Telling a bunch of people those guys are oppressing you is murderous, and why would anyone even bother to try in a society where shit like that is promulgated? The deck is stacked against me? OK fuck the game then.

And the kulaks would have liked to have a word with you about the implementation of this strategy, but they all got raped and killed, sent off to starve to death in the cold.

I said above I'd rather have seen it be used as a talking point. I mean, I guess if you really want anyone who harbors resentment over historical events to get fired, then no, I think it's perfect.

Let it go. Move on. That's the lesson everyone learned, right? Everyone?

Fuck that guy and the horse he rode in on...

As a black guy, I assume you have pretty passionate feelings on slavery in America, yet, you weren't ever a slave to my understanding. Resonate?

No, not remotely the same thing. I live in country that is still dealing with the history of slavery.

Seriously, try growing up Black in America before asking that question...

So from my point of view, to compare this to slavery is more than a bit ridiculous.

Many folks cling to the past, hell, WWII wasn't THAT long ago.
I try and offer understanding to their feelings, but ya, you gotta move on mis amigos!

That said, calling for anyone's job is pretty cutthroat. To each their own.

Calling for his job is cutthroat? He should've thought about that before the tweet.

In some cases, there are misunderstandings or times where people over-react to things without having all of the facts in front of them and destroy businesses reputations just because. And it often has to do with the fact that they just disagree with their opinion or position on something or another.

I see where @David. is coming from here, though I also disagree with him to an extent as well.

Here is a good example. We talked about how cultural appropriation is a non-issue the other day. Well, these girls in Portland had to shut their burrito shop down after being accused of cultural appropriation because they "picked the brains of every tortilla lady in Mexico" while they were on a road trip in Mexico as they tried to master their own tortilla recipe as well.

http://nypost.com/2017/05/24/burrito-shop-closes-after-being-accused-of-cultural-appropriation/

So long story short...a couple of journalists set out to shut them down, a group of posters snowballed into a larger group of posters and a mob of people basically forced them to shut their business down in the span of a week. All because of "cultural appropriation," which...I thought was supposed to be a good thing? (American is a melting pot, no?)

Then the journalists bragged about it. The mob was happy. And the girls were left without a business.

Out of curiosity, how did this mob force them to shut down a taco truck?

And most importantly, after reading the source article, why aren't people protesting the author of the article? I found the opening paragraph pretty offensive, so, I'm not sure who these people are that were protesting this restaurant?

So this isn't an example of somebody refusing to serve gay people or not being comfortable with Japanese people winning a race. This was a couple of girls that were trying to run a tortilla business that got shut down because of bullshit cultural appropriation.

How'd they get shutdown though? That's the part that I don't understand? Like... how's that work? I'm in business myself, and I know a thing or two about how retail businesses work -- and I see no way on Earth that article alone, plus some mild outrage, would've gotten their business shuttered on it's own.

Moreover, if you read the Post article, it suggests that the closure happened in less than a week.

That doesn't sound like someone being "shutdown," insomuch as they said "fuck it." Or, they ran out of money? But it damn sure wasn't the article that put them out of business.

With all due respect, I don't feel like any example I've given to you has been acceptable. Now, it's entirely possible that I'm just always wrong, and my wife might like to agree, but I personally disagree w/ that take. :)

I can't argue to you how you feel though, you're right. I won't try. I will tell you, I find it completely frustrating to try and have a conversation from my perspective when you refuse to at least acknowledge the similarities.

You don't have to, of course. I can't make you, I'm just letting you know as someone trying to have honest conversations, your position makes this feel disingenuous.

Reward the mob, get the mob.

This looks like racist oppression, and it manifested out of the refusal to participate in being racially oppressed.

This is becoming.. Scary. Can't help but think this is the result of telling people white people are oppressing you ubiquitously. This seems to result whenever this strategy is implemented.
