As trading season starts to heat up in the NBA, the Cavs are one team that might look to bring in a new component to try and combat the likes of the Magic, Hawks and Celtics in the East.
So whom might they go after? In his chat today, ESPN's Chad Ford touches on some names that are on the rumored trading block: Anthony Randolph, Antawn Jamison and perhaps the best option for now: Troy Murphy.
"The problem for the Cavs is that they only thing they really have to offer is cap relief. They have a bunch of expiring contracts, but little in the way of talent that they're willing to swap back. As for the three guys mentioned here's how it breaks down: Anthony Randolph has the most long-term upside, but he's very raw and the word out of Golden State is that he isn't the easiest guy to coach in the world. Jamison has the biggest immediate impact, but he's also 33 years old. Murphy is the middle ground. He's younger, has a better contract than Jamison and can rebound and really stretch the defense. Most realistically, I see them landing Murphy. Given Indy's woes right now, I think that an expiring contract for Murph might hit the spot."
Murphy is sure looking good against the Celtics tonight. 22 pts and 18 rebounds with 6 minute left in the 4th.
Do it, Danny.
They swarmed Howard in the paint and sent him to the free throw line, where he's shooting 58 percent.
Howard's frustration got the best of him when he took exception to Troy Murphy's grabbing him by his neck and shoulders midway through the third quarter.
Howard attempted to push Murphy but missed.:chuckles:
The officials met before issuing technicals on Murphy and Howard. O'Brien gave the officials an earful after disagreeing with the call.
"I thought (Howard) threw a punch, so they have to review it," O'Brien said. "They've got to call it. It certainly should have been a technical foul. That's their call and that's what they get paid for."
Murphy said he didn't think Howard threw a punch at him.
Howard went 13-of-22, including 5-of-6 in the fourth quarter, from the foul line to finish with 21 points and 23 rebounds.
"I've just got to stay calm," Howard said. "Guys are going to do whatever they can to get me frustrated. . . . It's tough in times when you get hit down there."
