Arrival - 7/10

Just clever enough to keep you in some sort of suspense, not too clever where you really had to think that hard. Kinda like a "tidier" version of Interstellar.

Big Short. 9/10

All star cast. Thought it was cool how self-aware the movie was (actors talking to the screen acknowledging things didn't go down the way they did in the movie, bringing Anthony Bourdain and Margot Robbie in out of nowhere to explain more complex concepts). Steve Carrell with a goddamn virtuoso performance, incredible range.

They did a really amazing job of explaining exactly how the market crashed in a simple and stylized way. And it really was as simple as this. You had a whole market based on variable rate sub-prime mortgages...that the borrowers couldn't afford to pay. And investors that were betting they could...or couldn't in the case of the protagonists pay them.

Then the market was really no more complicated than bets placed on bets placed on bets. Mindblowing...and very frustrating in retrospect.

Great flick.

Was one of my favorites last year. I loved the scene where Carrell and his team go to Miami to see if there really is a bubble. The 2 frat boy brahs are blabbing about how corrupt the system is, and Carrell goes, "I don't get it, why are they confessing", to which someone replies, "They aren't confessing, they're bragging".

I got to be honest. I thought Arrival was one of my favorite movies I have ever seen. I have never had a movie really make me think like that. The music was amazing. It's just a very spiritual movie.
9.5/10. You have to see it. It raises a lot of questions. No spoilers.

Barely into the accountant

Accountants aren't socially inept like this.

They're normally very emotionally intelligent, just introverted.

Bye!

Dragged to Trolls.

Zero. Point. Zero.

Doctor Strange 5/10 - Enjoyed some of the wild action scenes, but really felt like a missed opportunity for me. Felt too constrained to the Marvel universe, felt like there was very little threat and just wasn't what I had hoped for.

Arrival 8/10 - Really enjoyed the hell out of this. While it slows a bit in the middle, I left the theater questioning and thinking about the film so much and was very impressed with how well constructed it all was. Denis Villeneuve is such a great filmmaker, can't wait to see what he does with the Blade Runner sequel.

Accountant 2/10.

Has two acts basically. The first is basically based on character development, which was awful, and so is afleks character.

Three second is a bunch of hackey crime action stuff that is utterly boring.

I concur.

Russell Brand: from addiction to recovery is amazing.

Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Then

6.5/10

Solid but forgettable.

Saw Arrival.

95% of the theater said worst movie ever.

I'm really confused and think I missed the whole point.

Steve Jobs - 9/10

I really enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Sorkin writes dialogue so damn well, and I didn't think the structure was as weird as I thought it would be (it's just a three act play).

Allied: 5.0/10.0.

Meh. Just meh.
