The British version of the Oscars, the BAFTAs, happened today.

LaLa Land won best picture, director (Damien Chazelle) and actress (Emma Stone), and it seems all 3 seem like locks to win at the Oscars. Also won for music and cinematography, but lost to Manchester by the Sea for screeenplay.

Viola Davis won best supporting actress, and she seems like a lock for the Oscars.

Casey Affleck won best actor. Denzel was somehow not even nominated. I think Denzel wins the Oscar, but this will be a close one.

Biggest upset was Dev Patel winning best supporting actor, over Mahershala Ali. I think Ali will win the Oscar, but this was unexpected.

Jungle Book won best Special Effects, which I think it will also do at the Oscars.

And somehow Hacksaw Ridge won best editing. Somehow. Maybe British people like jump scares in war movies.

Lego Batman: 6 out of 10

As a diehard Batman fan & lover of Legos & its 1st movie; I left disappointed. While it had its moments, the movie failed to capture the magic of the first one. Im sure it will do well, but I just was not laughing as much as I had hoped based off of the trailers. 75% of the funny scenes were in the trailer with a cheap pop here & there.

Hacksaw ridge is good so far..

I love Vince Vaughn but he is miscast so far.

Feel like he is miscast for everything but comedies. I truly gave him a shot in True Detective 2 and he was flat out terrible.

The writing in particular to his character didn't help him at all in that role. The only character that came out unscathed in that was Farrell's and it's b/c he was the most straight-forward character in the show.

Vince has shown some range before (Swingers, Made), i'd even argue that he's pretty good in The Break-Up but it seems he relies heavily on chemistry with other co-stars vs. solo acting chops.

Just got back from that movie and i concur, this is not that funny. I knew I should have gone to John Wick 2.

Writing was as bad as humanly possible. I wouldn't judge anyone based on their performance in that show.

My god has a show ever had such a zenith in its first season and then such a low point in its 2nd? What a letdown.

John Wick 2

In the same vein as Lego Batman, it's exactly what you'd expect from the first movie and from the trailers. Really fun action movie. I have some issues with the ending as it seems like they are going to start milking some uneeded sequels.

I read somewhere it was always planned as a trilogy, assuming the first one was successful. Haven't seen it yet but from what i've heard, it's a cinematic marvel.

Hadn't heard that it was a trilogy.

I loved the idea in the 1st film. A hotel that only caters to professional assassins? Great! However, it might be one of those ideas like the Matrix where the initial concept is great, but once to try to build up the mythology for a couple of movies, it loses something.

Still great action scenes (although one of the main action scenes had terrible lighting)

American honey.. Gummo meets Spring Breakers.

Darn, going to see with the kids, hoping it was better.
