Nah.

Emma Stone >>>>>>>>>> All other Emmas

Watson and Roberts are prettier in the face to me. Both very skinny though.

Possibly cunty, whereas Stone does not seem cunty.

Overall package may go to you here.

Still not going to watch La La land because I hate musicals.

I'm amazed it's gotten such rave reviews...

I'm a huge movie buff and have zero interest in seeing it; but.. I'll watch it now..

Do folks here really think it was that good?

Don't watch it. Do some kind of heavy sedatives until the desire goes away.

Or watch something better. I can think of at least 8,380 movies I'd rather watch than any given musical.

It was my favorite movie of last year, save all the movies that had Darth Vader in them.

It's not emotionally deep or extremely thought provoking. It is very beautiful to watch, though.

To date, I have watched the following musicals.

Jersey Boys
West Side Story
Wizard of Oz
Mary Poppins
Guys and Dolls (I actually played an extra in this in HS)
Joseph And the Technicolor Dreamcoat (also played an extra in 8th grade)
Mary Poppins
Newsies
Phantom of the Opera
The Sound of Music
Grease

Jersey Boys is the only one of all of these that I found tolerable. I watched it on Broadway my first time in New York, so that had some level of excitement to it and I like Frankie Valli. We went to Newsies the next time we went to New York and I didn't like it. Amy Schumer sat two rows in front of us before she blew up on the comedy scene and then started being annoying politically. So that was kind of cool. It wasn't entertaining.

Otherwise...my mom forced me to go to Wizard of Oz and West Side Story with her as a kid. I was dragged to Phantom with my parents as a very young kid so that holds a special place in hell for me. Grease played SEVERAL times on one of the TV's on a bus trip in middle school and then AGAIN in high school.

Mary Poppins and Sound of Music...were they the same movie? I don't know...either way, IDGAF. They are a musical about a magical babysitter in Europe who flies around with an umbrella up her ass and a Nazi husband. I vaguely remember both of these being on when I was a kid and not liking them.

I was in Guys and Dolls and Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat because at my school we had to take part in a certain amount of extracurricular activities that weren't sports and this was mine. Both were a fucking nightmare. The only thing worse than watching a musical is being IN one. Jesus Christ. Singing and shuffling around trying to find spots on the floor with dozens of people at the same time was panic-inducing for me. As much of an attention-whore as I was as a kid, I was not good at being an attention whore within guidelines and rules and definitely not good at sharing the stage with others. Plays and lines were not for me. I was terrified during those musicals, borderline pants pissing.

Actually...I think maybe I've traced back part of my disgust with musicals! There is a long standing trend of being forced to watch or participate in musicals against my will. This was valuable.

Edit: My wife likes the ABBA one. This is also intolerable.

I hate musicals too. Walked out of more than my share -- just unable to take it. "Cats" made me want to kill myself so I wouldn't have to be conscious while walking out.

That being said...I saw Man of La Mancha with the original dude playing Don Quixote -- My mom took me when I was 14. Basically, he's an old man going senile who thinks he's a knight, fighting bad guys, etc.. And the story is mostly other people laughing at him. But damn, it was awesome. And the lyrics to "The Impossible Dream" are freaking fantastic "To be willing to march into Hell for a Heavenly cause...."

A movie that technically counts as a musical is "Once" -- it's set in Ireland and follows this Irish busker who meets this girl. But the music is organic to the story so you don't get the "people walking along and then start singing out of nowhere" bullshit. Small-scale independent film that my wife got it because she liked the cover, and it was fantastic.

But every other musical ever created seriously

I saw Man of La Mancha in an English class in college once. I remember this solely because Sophia Loren was in it. I don't even remember it being a musical or really anything about it. I only remember that it was about a guy who thought he was Don Quixote since you mentioned that just now. :chuckle:

I just remember that she had the most gorgeous set of titties I had ever seen to that point in time. Her face was beautiful too. Beautiful italian woman in general. But dem titties. She was almost 40 in that movie too.

The movie was freaking horrible because it translated the script too literally -- a key part of the story is that much of is imagined in his head. Really one of those things that works much better live.

But Sophia Loren was born to play that role. I mean...damn.

A young Sophia Loren kinda makes me want @gourimoko to explain if there's a way to go back in time to have a threesome with a young Sophia Loren AND a young TAT.

I don't evem have to be a black guy this time. I can be a whatever age me this time.

I've been scarred for life from watching musicals after being forced to watch The Sound of Music on repeat throughout grade school. Will never watch another musical again; can't do it.

I tend to agree with you. There are a lot of great songs from musicals that I enjoy listening to, but when every line of the entire show is someone singing, even just random conversation to move the plot along, it gets old quick.

Enjoyed Once as well, bought the album that all the songs in the movie came from. Glen Hansard's voice is pretty amazing to listen to.

Also, I've never really understood the point of movie awards to be honest.
