In the book, IT feeds off of fear, and thus it is capable of becoming whatever the victim fears most. That's why it changed so much throughout the book. Presumably they left this mostly out of the series because it would have been a hell of a lot more expensive, and because Curry was scary enough as the clown anyway for what they were going for.

Like when Henry Bowers is released from the asylum by IT as he takes the form of the clown but with a dog head. It looks terrible in the movie and I was kinda shocked to realize that came from the book. Worse than the spider.

Also, I recently watched Everything Must Go, which is a decent flick. Ferrell is really solid in it. I always wonder about comedians doing serious roles. Does it work so well because they are actually great actors, or are their dramatic performances lifted by the contrast from our expectations of them? Like Robin Williams is incredible as an actor, but would I revere his talent quite as much if I didn't know him as Mork or Mrs. Doubtfire?

Going to see Logan tonight. It's getting great reviews on RT, and a lot people saying it's way different than your typical superhero movie. Maybe it's pretentious enough to get some Oscar buzz?
Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but wasn't there a story saying Marvel was paying to have the best reviews counted on the RT score? Maybe it was studios in general but I thought there was some sort of controversy a couple years back about RT being slanted by whoever was paying the most for reviews?

Maybe. Don't remember.

X-men is a Fox studios property, though, not a Marvel Studios/Disney one.

Right, that's my fault for not clarifying I knew that. Your post just triggered something in my brain about RT, real or not.

I do want to see Logan though, looks good.

Watched Moonlight last night. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about...Sure, there was good acting and cinematography but you could say that about most Oscar-nominated films.

I was downright bored towards the end. I am all for the "be comfortable with your true self" message but i feel like it's a little dated at this point.

Best part of the movie was the first 30-40 minutes detailing the young boy's life as he struggles to find his sense of self in the ghettos of Miami. The rest of the film was just kind of meh to me.

6/10

Felt the exact same way. I said that amongst others and I was called a racist homophobe.

Psh, that's ridiculous. I could understand the message of the movie having more of an impact if the story took place in the deep south but Miami is a pretty progressive city in regards to LGBT acceptance. That's why the point didn't land for me.

I sympathized with the main character due to his upbringing...that part was sad but as far as the bullying angle, that's a pretty common theme in most HS's, regardless of the reason why they were bullied. Gay, straight, white, black, rich, poor, dumb, smart...If someone wants to be a bully, they will find a way to single out kids for the sake of bullying.

I don't know...just after all the hype, the movie fell flat, IMO.

I agree with both of you to an extent.. I jump the gun on reviews. The last act was just not very interesting. the first 2/3 were.

So you agree La La Land should've won!

Still have yet to see it but hoping to cross it off the list by the end of the weekend. Of the nominated films i have seen, i'd rank them as:

1. Arrival
2. Hacksaw Ridge
3. Manchester By The Sea
4. Hell or High Water
5. Moonlight

edit; the best part of Moonlight is that it introduced me to Janelle Monae. My god is she pretty.

Didn't like Hell or High Water? That was #2 on my list of the nominated movies.

Monae was also in Hidden Figures. She had a much more prominent role, and a lot of people, including me, thought she was the best actor in the movie.

I liked it and believe me, i enjoyed watching it much more than Manchester. It just left my mind much quicker than Manchester did. They could easily be 3A, 3B. I am a huge fan of westerns and I am glad they are experiencing a bit of a revolution / reframing for modern purposes. I just didn't think Hell or High Water did anything that hadn't been done before. I am also a little biased b/c i tend to prefer more epic-feeling type movies. That's why Hacksaw is so high on my list. Sure, there was nothing that inventive about the movie when compared to other war films but the last half of the movie was just so jarring, it was thrilling to watch.

None of this year's movies were that great.

I am pretty excited to see Logan this weekend. Wolverine has long deserved an R-rated movie.
