I'm rewatching The Shining now.

The thing that stands out the most to me is how the hell did Shelly Duvall get the lead on that movie? She is the fucking worst. I'd want to bash her brains in too if I were stuck in that hotel all winter with her.

Also, Henry's character is super over-the-top right from the start rather than slowly building toward him losing it. I guess you can credit that to the run time, as they probably just didn't have enough time to slow build it.

In both movies and the book Henry is a caricature level psychopath bully from the start. The scene where he cuts his initials in Ben's stomach is pretty early in the story and that's already some serial killer level fucked up shit.

She won the Razzie that year. Kubrick did too though I think.

Blade Runner 2049 opens next week. Getting great reviews. There are a couple of youtube "prequel" videos to this one.

Haven't watched the original in a while, so I'll probably rewatch it. Read an article that says the version of the original that you should watch is "The Final Cut"

I think you're supposed to want to bash her brains in. Part of the brilliance of the movie is that there's some element of sympathizing with Jack's situation to disorient the viewer.

If you watch the behind the scenes footage of Kubrick with Shelley, he treated her like shit and was intentionally trying to bring out the shrill, weak cunty element of her personality.

I just thought he escalated a bit slower in the books overall.

Pretty hype for American Made this weekend. I like biopic action movies. Has better reviews than I thought it was. Hate Tom Cruise...

Cruise pretty reliably picks solid movies. He has plenty of mediocre ones but not many that are outright bad.

I don’t care for Tom Cruise at all. I feel like over the last 10 years, he’s basically the same character in every film he does. The Mummy was awful.

American Made was solid. I give it 7.5/10. Tom Cruise was really great in this role. The character was outside of his normal roles, so it was nice to see that change.

The last two films I've seen in theatre were both Channing Tatum films (Logan Lucky and Kingman 2) and both had John Denver music as a bit of a theme for the film. Is that just a coincidence? I did love the Scottish version of Country roads complete with bagpipes in the new Kingman film.

He's kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. I really liked the first Jack Reacher and I enjoy all of the Mission Impossible films. Jack Reacher 2 sucked though. That was a phone in by him.

I’m rewatching The Witch for the 3rd or 4th time.

Truly one of the most disturbing and intense horror movies I’ve seen. Seems to me that they nailed the time period too.

The kids spoke in that dialect effortlessly too

Thought American Made was very boring, and had a bunch of plot holes. 6/10
