Rockets shut down trade talks about Omer Asik

Re: Rockets approaching teams about Omer Asik

I can't understand giving up Thompson for Asik. They are pretty close to the same player, except Thompson is on a better deal and is 5 years younger with lots of room to improve. Just doesn't make much sense

I don't think the Rockets would want Thompson given his poor fit next to Howard. Maybe a three team deal.

I'd rather have Asik because he can play a more valuable position. Also, he can start. I don't see Thompson starting for us given Bennett's arrival. Asik and Bennett is a good fit. Asik is already one of the top defensive centers and is still young. Only 26. Only played in the NBA for 3 years. Not many miles.

Rockets supposedly liked Tyler Zeller in last year's draft but selected players they believed would interest Orlando.

They've always liked him. RT @BMacinCle: Omer Asik would be a perfect fit for the Cavs via trade now that he's available.

And if in 2 years Thompson is an 18-12 guy while Asik is entering FA, we will hate ourselves.

Bennett will be at 22/12 by then, so we won't feel the brunt so much. If Asik works out then he won't be going anywhere.

We are allowed to resign free agents. If Asik is a great fit(I think he would be) and we have a very good team(we should), I think we can resign him.

I love this. Dude hasn't played a fucking game in the league and already he's going to be the lone 22/12 in the league. That's right, no one in the league putting up those numbers. So, apparently, Bennett is headed for the top 5 players list in TWO YEARS. Good to know.

People, there are number 1 draft picks that do bust.

And there hasn't been a Chris Grant first round pick that has busted. In terms of expectations for Anthony Bennett's prime, I would say 22/12 isn't too far off of what he could do. I like to think 20/10 is more reasonable, but Kevin Love posted 26/13 for a season. Although Bennett is shorter, he certainly more athletic and has a more advanced offensive skill set in terms of stretching the defense and being able to attack the basket off the bounce.

With faith in Chris Grant, I fully expect Bennett to become our 2nd banana, with Waiters playing a very good third fiddle.

Maybe Asik secretly likes big latin asses and will want to go to south beach.

edit: nm, he was/is dating miss ohio

I'd say 18 and 7 is reasonable for Bennett. You guys are making him out to be a perennial all-star.

One would hope the #1 overall pick could become a perennial all-star, even in a "weak" draft.

you are correct but most take a couple of years to get there. but every 4 or 5 years we have one that is bust

Re: Rockets approaching teams about Omer Asik

We can hope but its not a sure thing. Tristan proved himself that he can get better and he is one of the hardest workers on this team. Bennett hasn't played a single game in the NBA, we still don't know how he will perform in the NBA.

Re: Rockets approaching teams about Omer Asik

If the cavs can't get Asik I think Pekovic is the next target. The guy is 7' and 300 pounds. He has a physical playing style that would instantly make us a tough team. He's not real mobile, but is a force around the basket. With the cavs seeming to go in an offensive direction I think he makes a lot of sense. Probably the biggest center in the league since shaq retired.
