Rodney Hood: Won't be missed

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well, I figure it will take something more than 1) putting together a team that should have taken Game 1 from the greatest team in history if it wasn't robbed, while simultaneously 2) leaving us in a much better rebuilding posture than we were the last time LeBron ditched us.

I personally think he's done a better job than anyone else we've had during the LeBron era.

Should note that maybe Lebron had a say in acquiring Wade and Rose..and some other players.

Not overpaying for Nance and Hood should be a priority now.

While I don't like the approach of competing now, I hope that we think about absorbing bad salary for draft picks somewhere down the line in the near future. We need to accumulate assets in any way.

I don't think the Cavs will overpay for Nance. Koby hasn't shown himself yet to be a Monty Haul type of GM, and Nance is likely willing to sign here for a reasonable deal. That's a good recipe for reaching a fair deal that isn't an overpay.

As far as I'm concerned we should handle Hood in such a way so as to develop his value as an asset, then move him at the first possible opportunity for whatever returns we can get back. Just maximize and move. I don't think Hood is ever going to amount to anything based on what he's shown so far. He's just one of those guys who somehow managed to catch fire when he played against the Cavs, but fizzles out once we bring him here. Color me highly skeptical that he will ever be a meaningful contributor to this team.

What do you consider an overpay and what do you consider a reasonable deal?

$12M/per. Anything over that is an overpay.

He's a role player, who may or may not develop into a consistent starter. Health is a bit of a question mark too.

Give him 3 years, plus a one year player option. If he balls out, he still has the chance for one big contract after that.

Capella just got $18/per, but he's a better player and a proven, consistent starter. He's also younger, and a true 5 who can't get bullied down low. He's a cornerstone - Nance his a role player.

I’d only take Hood if he came on a team friendly deal like 3/15 or 3/21 max. If the guy was 22, he’d be a vet you bet on improving, but the stats show he’s horrific. I wanted to blame his play on a Lebron, but that doesn’t look to be the case.

Hood is holding up the offseason. If he leaves, that changes some things.

Horrific is a stretch. That doesn't mean he's good, but his numbers are far from horrific. He can score in the right situations. He's not a good defender - can be average at best. I'd be targeting a salary in the $8-11 range. Remember that next year the cap will be around $109 and then around 116-117, so that salary is far from bad. The league average salary is just under $8M and Hood is better than the league average - this is going to include your end of bench guys.

You try to get him under a reasonable contract that could be a value if he erupts and a team needs some help on offense. If he puts up 17+ again then he will have some value at the trade deadline, especially if he is under a three year deal.

But I think to call someone that played under 30mpg in Utah last year and scored nearly 17ppg horrific is a huge leap. Same for a guy that shot 39% from three and 88% from the line. Hood can score. He can shoot. He's never going to be a good defender, but some teams can hide that - and Utah hid it pretty well (Mitchell is also not a great defender, but he's a better offensive player than Hood).

3 years/$32.4M would be a decent deal.

They didn't hide it very well. Read PriceFTW's post.

Mitchell is on a different level as a defender than Hood despite being 5 inches shorter.

Also, he is not a good scorer. His efficiency is below average because he doesn't get to the line. He is a volume scorer, and not a particularly good one.

He is not good enough to be worth it for us to hide him lol. Lou a Williams got 8m per for 3 years and in his previous contract that he got 7m for 3 years. Why should Hood get more than that when he is a significantly worse offensive player? Again, cause he is 6'8?

Hood should get 5m based on production. I'll add a million for age.

Has there ever been a player as tall as Hood who's such a total non-factor on the glass?

Skinny dudes that are/were apathetic on the defensive end.

Reggie Miller, Andrew Wiggins and Fournier come to mind.

I'll give you Wiggins (though his rebounding numbers are slightly better than Hood's). Miller and Fournier are really 6'7" tops though, while Hood and Wiggins are closer to 6'9".

Hood is 6'8 , and even then he has the length of a shooting guard.

Wiggins is an anomaly because he is on a different level as an athlete.

Reggie Miler and Hood are comparable...although Miller was significantly longer, so the one inch difference isn't a factor here.

And lol .1 difference in favor of Wiggins and you are going to make an issue out of ?

No doubt he has dinosaur arms, but he is legitimately 6'9". Measured 6'7.25" in socks at the combine, and lots of guys who measure 6'7" in socks get listed at 6'9". Reggie Miller was probably 6'5" in socks on a good day.

They look the same to me.
