Can a qualifying offer be rescinded. More and more I don’t want himWhen we acquired Hood in Feb, number of posters were excited of this addition and some compared to Redd or potential to average +20ppg. I did some research and analysis and watched some video again.
Hood shot 38% from 3pt catch and shoot these past 2 years.
Shoots 87% from the stripe past 2 yrs but averages only 2FTs per game.
When driving to the basket he tends to pull a jumper instead of going strong to the hoop and not use his athleticism.
For a guy who is long and athletic, he does not take advantage of his skills and is more soft. Hood is more of a volume shooter and scores more with more shots. However he does not get to the FT line and does not take advantage of creating contact and not taking it strong, he settles too often. Being a 42% career shooter he has to be more efficient offensively therefore his offensive efficiency rating is rather mediocre.
His defense lacks focus and his defensive IQ is poor. Perhaps it is the passion because at times he gives effort but rarely see it. I feel he thinks he is comfortable where he is and believes he is a good player. It has not changed since his college days at Duke. His footwork and stance is poor. He does not box out as well. It is just mechanics but do not see any will to improve.
I do not see him wanting to improve and feel a talented offensive player settling. Only ways if he wants to be a better player he needs to change with motivation and confidence to improve. If Hood is here I want him to improve and do well but I do not see any changes from him.
Yes, it can. He then becomes an UFA.Can a qualifying offer be rescinded. More and more I don’t want him
For me, the most ideal scenario is he finds another team and we do a sign-and-trade. Is that possible?Yes, it can. He then becomes an UFA.
On the other hand, he is in a contract year.
Why would they give us Hill and a future first? I know Hill is on a bad contract, but it is only this year and next year. Meanwhile, Hood really is not that valuable. We effectively got him for Jae Crowder, and after his playoff performance, his value is now lower.I'm not a salary cap expert, but I think a sign and trade to the Pelicans, probably with the Cavs receiving Solomon Hill and a future first, could make sense. There were reports of mutual interest between Hood and the Pelicans earlier in the summer, but they're over the cap and used the MLE on Randle so can't sign him outright.

I mean, sure... But if my aunt had...Well, their depth chart is absolutely bare bones on the wing right now. So trading Hill and a future first for some kind of decent 2/3 would make a ton of sense for them. If they think Hood is a decent 2/3 that would fit well in their system, we should happily oblige.

I just do not see any team viewing Hood as equal to a future first and a low-end contributor with a mediocre contract situation.
Since when is Hood a useful role player? He has been a pretty significant net negative the past two years.I could be wrong, but I don't think Solomon Hill qualifies as a "low-end contributor." At least based on his stats, he's been absolutely atrocious since returning from injury, just 13M/year of pure dead weight, and only played at all because their other options were even worse. They would almost have to pair him with a future first to get a decent NBA player in return.
Of course, maybe they can do better than Hood in that case, but I don't think many teams will be jumping at the opportunity to trade useful roleplayers for Hill and a first that's likely to land in the late teens at best.

Hill can still defend. He had one amazing year in Indiana and New Orleans way overpaid for him. But two years left on a deal is not that bad. Frankly, Hood and Hill are about the same value in my book. Hood is a bit higher because of his age and lack of injuries. But not worth an extra first.
