Situation to watch: Minnesota T'Wolves

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dion, Tristan, 2014 first round pick. That's where you open negotiations. That gets Minnesota's attention.

You then go into negotiations knowing that they probably don't take that and you have to include some combination of the Memphis pick, Andy's expiring contract, 2015 first round pick, Bennett. Obviously not all of those. If they're truly wanting to rebuild, Martin may be on the table as well.

I don't know how the money works, but what about Love/Martin for Dion/Tristan/2014 1st/Andy/Mem pick?

NO one would argue tho that KG was a one way player. Kevin Love's struggles with D are well known.

I agree...but all Love has ever been on is bad teams that run and gun ... it would be interesting to see how his D intensity would change if he was on a playoff contending team that wasn't flying up and down the court trying to score 110 everynight

What if we can get 2 of the 3 of Turner/Hawes/Young from Philly? More realistic than Love IMO. I'd do that Love/Martin trade. I would also do pretty much the same package for Marc Gasol and like Courtney Lee(change our outgoing package to be a bit less).

Why would we want those guys?

Most of the Philly players with career highs are getting it through the high octane offense, right? That's what I saw when we played them. Doesn't exactly justify taking any of them. Hawes is an exception, unless we can't resign Deng, then Young may be an alternative. By the way, if we deal with the Wolves, wouldn't it be better to only start off with a Dion/Tristan/Draft pick deal and leave it there? I'd prefer to use the Grant approach because teams will hate him, but they'll be desperate with one buyer on the market (for the most part) that actually has assets to toss.

Again, it's just my opinion. We have leverage, no need to lose it by bidding against ourselves.

Agreed, what I meant was that the other stuff shouldn't be a reason the deal doesn't get done. Go into that negotiation prepared to maybe give up a bit more than planned, but certainly don't rush to include more.

Martin himself has a fair amount of value. If anything they would send a guy they don't want like Barea along.

Not to say I don't want Love, but I guess to play devil's advocate, if he is set on going to LA, we might only have him the rest of this year and then the following year.

Then he can exercise the ETO and bolt.

I'm ok with adding the star and negotiating later, but I'd be a little worried of burning all our assets and then not having much to show for it come 2015. Just a thought.

That LA crap is so old. That was the rumor like two years ago. Maybe that's what he 'wants', but getting to play next to Kyrie Irving for as long as the two want to is a situation that I think could certainly convince him that LA isn't quite worth it.

He isn't being traded this season unless a key player goes down and they are truly out of the playoff race. This off-season is when it really starts but I could still see him at least starting next season in a timberwolves' jersey.

Minnesota is going to fuck it up.

This makes me wonder If we miss out on you know who would Love be our plan B? Aldridge Is not going anywhere who else would be out there we shall see but It's either Love LeBron or bust at this time right now until we know more about the market off the future.

probably so... there are no upcoming FA's I really see us having a chance with or wanting ... I could definitely live with Love,Deng, and Kyrie trio to build around... you add key vets to Andy and Jack and hope Bennett and Zeller develop into quality bench players at least

I'd say Marc Gasol is definitely on the table as well as an alternative, and we have the best leverage to get him in the event that Memphis decides to tear it down and embrace the tank.

I am not sure what Memphis plans are. The owners seem to be cheap, they fired the coach that led them to their greatest amount of success in franchise history and even if Gasol didn't go down it seems that cores darkhorse contender status is gone and the team is trending down.

I think there's virtually zero chance the Wolves trade Love before this trade deadline. They want to get to the playoffs -- and show Love that they can get to the playoffs. Cause their first choice is to keep him, not trade him, not to us, not LA. So unless the Wolves are so far out of contention by the deadline, it's not happening soon. And if they get to the playoffs that might convince either/both Love or the team to keep rolling the dice with Love as long as possible until he actively chooses to walk out. You don't just give up on star players.

Really, the only two scenarios I can see a Love trade: massively out of the running by the deadline so they trade on that day or they hold him for the remainder of this season, don't make the playoffs, Love goes apeshit on them this summer making it clear he's leaving first chance, and then they make the summer-time trade.

I guess you could put it this way: if they make the playoffs this year, there's no way they trade Love, ever, at any point during this contract. Just mho.
