Sizemore and Red Sox talk

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Hey but guess what buddy, i bet the only time the Jake sells out is to see the Yanks and the Sox play, thats why they have the most nationally televised games between the 2 of them, whenever you go to a Sox game almost anywhere, there are tonnns of red sox fans same with the yankees, and guess what? both teams have devoted baseball fans, Sox finished 3rd in the divison, and guess what? every game at fenway was if not sold out, had all the seats filled. These teams generate money, wether you like it or not, and so far, only one team has had success with the whole "over pay players theory"

We've been down this road before... you cannot compare Cleveland sellouts to Boston and NY. There are so many economic differences and population disparities that it would be idiotic to compare the number of sellouts those markets generate to what goes on here.

My point is that it's frustrating to watch young rising MLB stars follow the almighty dollar as they become FA's when there are only a few franchises that can afford these salaries. I can't hate the NBA for having teams that are consistently good - the major reason the league is great in my eyes is because they have a rookie salary structure in place that gives these players' home teams an advantage to re-sign them. And there is a salary cap in place that doesn't give one market an advantage over another.

Thankfully NY and Boston haven't been winning the WS consistently. But they are still competing in the playoffs virtually every year and the reason for that is not because they have great GM's.

Re: Sizemore Becoming A Star

Red Sox missed the playoffs last year...and the Yankees struggled for the first half of the season. And yea yea, i know the "economic differences" are ever so large, please tell me what has happened to Cleveland economically between when getting a seat at the Jake was the toughest ticket in sports and now where you can get a seat on game day at the ticket booth? please do tell. I think i know the answer, Cleveland isn't a baseball city, its a city and then a fan of whoever is doing well, the Cavs or the Indians. Right now its the Cavs, so the Indians are now the stepchild.

This have changed economically since then. And the population in the Cleveland metropolitan area has decreased since then. I've explained this before James - most Cleveland fans are not fair-weather fans. They just have less disposable income than cities like Boston and NY. So they aren't going to run out and spend their money unless the team is doing well.

I've lived in Cleveland my whole life. There are other factors at work here too - may view this city's sports teams as "cursed" and are often reluctant to buy into a team by spending money on tickets, concessions, parking, etc. That's just how it is and it probably won't change until one of these teams wins a title.

Re: Sizemore Becoming A Star

James, you know how stupid you sound?

Take a look at who owns the sell out streak in MLB. It isnt the Red Sox or the Yankees. The Sox, who seat 5,000 less than the Indians after their renovation..

There is a reason why nobody watches baseball anymore. Becuase of the Yanks and Sox. The ratings get worse and worse every year.

Re: Sizemore Becoming A Star

5,00 less, but i bet the Sox still had more fans in attendence over the past 5 years, even with a stadium that seats 5,000 less then the Jake. And a sell out streak, yea good job, it was only selling out when the Indians had a team worth watching. Now that they dont, nobody is going, and yea, maybe chiefwahoo has a point about and "economically deprived" city, but you arent the only city like that. Also, Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field and Fenway Park will always have fans in the seats because they are all amazing places to watch baseball, and i have had the privlige of being able to see a several games in each of those stadiums.

Re: Sizemore Becoming A Star

People aren't going because we are unhappy with the owner, not because of the team.

Get your facts straight.

Oh my God I can't believe you said that. This is beyond me.

BOS and NYY have more sell outs now because they have bought talent the public wants to see. It's BS. You just shelled out 100M for a pitcher. That's nearly twice our salary. We want a guy, we can offer him 5 million. You want him, you can offer him 50 million.

A fan of whoever is doing good? Wow, just wow. Basketball gets more sellouts because there are only 82 games and it's a more universal sport and everyone can play. The Browns even sold out the first I think 6 games (or were close). No wonder those weren't.

A Mac is right the people don't want to go to the games because we know Dolan has extra cash that he won't put into the Indians. We build our talent on good investments and scouting, you just buy whatever you think looks shiny.

Cleveland's one of the greatest sports cities EVER. Period.

BTW, two years ago the Cavs didn't make the playoffs (Horrible, since it's hard to miss them in the NBA). Two years ago the Indians missed the playoffs during the last series of the season. Basketball gets more sellouts because there are less games to go to, and when people go to one, they don't need to go back for a while.

Re: Sizemore Becoming A Star

Glad to see this thread went into a dumb direction...

I'm going to throw this out there.

Sizemore has a great chance at hitting .295, 30 HR's, 100++ RBI's.

He needs to be hitting third, infront of Hafner and Vic. Problem is we don't have a great lead-off hitter yet. Still, Grady is too fast, and he's too good of a hitter to be at the lead-off spot.

Here's what I'd love to have happen. Barfield and the LF platoon infront of Sizemore, Pronk, and Vic. That heart of the order is a powerful one.

This means Hafner will have more guys on base his RBI's will go up, as will Grady's as that means teams can't pitch around him.

Everything is Pats and Sox...he thinks it's wicked awesome but we don't give a **** about his teams..

Why would you need Sizemore? We gave you Coco Crisp...thanks for the top 3rd base prospect :chuckles:

U MAD?

Isn't Sizemore signed through 2011? I don't know why James is getting all wet to the idea of Sizemore in a Red Sox uni.
