The Moody blues is about the only one not mentioned that I would throw in there.

I went with Yes just because they're my favorite band out of the ones listed. Close to the Edge is a top 5 album of all time for me.

Damn, I forgot a really good one.

The Cure better be on the short list this year. They pretty much invented Goth/Emo (yes, I know that emo kids suck) and the music was incredibly influential across the musical spectrum.

Rush not being in there is insane. They have arguably the best drummer of all time, some of the best lyrics of all time and their music sounded like nothing else around then. (Mainly because of Getty Lee's voice and Neil Peart's amazing swing and jazz style drumming.

Like the band he played in, he's highly under-rated but he's up there Bonzo and Keith Moon IMO.

Some love for a few of our leaders so far:

And a little more love for Benjamin Orr of The Cars... a Parma Heights guy.

Depeche Mode, the Violator album was amazing. Enjoy the silence is still one of my all time favorite songs.

I also forgot about INXS, amazing band too, same genre as Depeche Mode

I also try to look at nominees who were influential even if they didn't have massive success. Just because a band was a big name or sold a lot of records doesn't always mean they deserve to be inducted.

Randolph, good call on the Cure. They have been an influential band while also having some success. I've read lots of articles about bands who have come out in the last 10 years or more who cite them as a major influence. Hard to believe they've been around over 30 years now.

From the list of choices in the poll I went with the Stooges. They were pretty groundbreaking and were influential in future punk, alternative and hard rock.

Thought I'd bump this thread to ask a different question in regard to the Rock Hall.

What bands or performers who've come out in the last 10-15 years or so do you think could be possible future inductees?

With the way the music business has changed and the way people get music has changed I think it's going to get tougher to find legitimate qualified nominees. There will probably be fewer bands who are able to have long time successful careers.

I could really only come up with three possibilities. Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Radiohead. All are respected by most, critically acclaimed and have had some influence. I'm not a big rap fan so I can't really comment on possibilities there.

I just know ColdPlay is going to get in :(

I could see Stone Temple Pilots or Green Day, but hopefully not for awhile.

Pantera deserves a look, they're the reason all these current "nu_metal" bands had some influence to work with in the 90s.

Where is Electric Light Orchestra? :dunno:

Some people don't seem to know ELO beyond "Don't Bring Me Down" but they are also very under-rated. They put out a TON of good music and some of it was pure genius. Fire On High is one of my favorite instrumental songs of all time (thought the intro is creepy as hell), up there with Classical Gas, Cliffs of Dover and Moby Dick. They were pretty clearly influenced by The Beatles which I like.

You'll see someone like a Beck who may be considered. Kind of on the outside of mainstream but still influential.
Others:
Red Hot Chili Peppers
White Stripes
Foo Fighters
Alice in Chains

there's a huge drop off after that

Of those I'd put in RHCP without blinking and Alice In Chains right behind them. I don't think Foo Fighters or White Stripes are deserving. Cool style of music from both of them, but I see them as one trick ponies.
