So long, David Griffin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Because they make fun of him.

Wow. I really don't even know what to say to this. Did you notice all the love when we signed blue collar white guy Chris Andersen? Me neither.

I'll guess just say that it's apparent that the only thing you see when you look at Delly is his skin color. I actually feel sorry for someone who lives their life looking through that lens.

This is an ugly enough conversation at this point that I'm just going to drop it.

Nicely done taking my quote out of context to please your argument. My quote was saying Scalabrine is garbage, not Delly..

Delly is a career backup pg, there is no other reason for him being exalted other than him being the gritty white guy. I don't see everything as black and white but in this instance, it applies. I'm sorry that makes you uncomfortable.

Have you even looked at Delly's #'s this year by the way? Watched him play? We're not missing much.

If Griffin's biggest mistake in your eyes is losing Delly, give the dude a break.

there were a lot of exceptions available for larger salaries, there were lots of better guys that signed for min salary, esp late in the process.

In absence of an argument it is awfully useful to say "next" tho, so there's that.

Exceptions? You want to expand on that thought? That's an incomplete thought.

Who could we have gotten for the min that you'd be happier with? I've got Javale Mcgee. Who else?

Richard Jefferson is now our first man off the bench and plays the small ball 4 role. Derrick Williams was our "big wing" signing and doesn't play.

Meanwhile his better version, Michael Beasley, is playing for the minimum in Milwaukee. There's two.

(exceptions = trade exceptions, room to take on salaries)

Dedmon, Nene, Speights, Terrence Jones, Seraphin & David Lee would ALL have been better than what Birdman provided & make at or near vet min. Indeed, Lou Amundson would be better than what Cavs got out of Birdman, so, you know, super low bar.

As for what would be better than Jordan McRae and Mo Williams? I don't know a wet cleveland steamer? Hell Quinn Cook and Yogi Ferrell would be better than those two... that's w/o even looking. Wasn't Ish Smith out there? Another.

Delly brought a lot to the table that this team is lacking. That toughness in practice to break people out of the doldrums of the regular season would've been nice to have this year. His hustle and defense on the court would have been nice this year. Setting up plays and running an offense would have been nice this year. Oh, and he was a net positive to both offense and defense when on the court last year.

Would Delly have improved this team? Absolutely. And that has nothing to do with him being white. It's the same reason we wanted to move Shump for Beverley at the deadline.

Was Delly worth 41 million dollars THIS YEAR ALONE? Absolutely not. Griffin made the right call by moving him.

If you want to argue against Griffin's decision, you have to understand that Delly would have cost $9.6 million in salary, and an additional $31.4 million in luxury tax.

At least one poster above was disappointed with Griffin for not signing Delly after the 2015 playoffs, when Delly was rumored to have been looking for a $3-4M annual salary. That 's a different argument than you're making here.

I hope Griffin (assuming it's Griffin) will see the value of putting together a somewhat younger roster that can eat up minutes and remain competitive, without sacrificing playoff potential. It's a tough balance, but a veteran-heavy roster of old role players getting hurt or not playing much is a hard regular-season watch.

Do you mean after 2015?

If so, whoops. I completely agree with him--and I think most on the board did too. RandolphKeys made us all early believers of Delly. Locking him up after 2015 would have paid off in spades today.

@Randolphkeys and Delly...I remember watching Summer League and thinking Keys was nuts, because Delly did nothing. Then Delly not only made the 15 man roster, but got signed to a two-year deal, and I thought that was even more nuts. Delly sucked.

Then the season began, I started watching, and have been proudly hanging on Keys' Delly-jock ever since.

I mean, we had a dude who played so hard he put himself in the hospital. While hitting over 40% from 3 at the age of 25. And for maybe $4M/year....

Shit.

Dedmon = $3 mil contract
Nene = $3 mil contract
Speights = Doable. Do we need more jump shooters that provide no defensive presence? No thanks
TJones = I don't have a problem with him over Birdman. Don't know how available he was.
Seraphin = $1.8 mil
Amundsun = Lol please

Hindsight sure is 20/20 with you guys. Had Birdman not gotten hurt, had Bogut not gotten hurt, this conversation wouldn't be taking place. It's the playoffs and you guys wanna play back seat GM.

In March and April, Delly played 24 minutes or more in 13 out of 19 games. He is a major part of a playoff team's rotation who plays more when the matchup calls for it, less when his lack of footspeed makes him a liability, starting eight of them. In other words, he's doing exactly what he did as a Cavalier, and unlike Deron Williams, looks like he gives a fuck while playing.

The Delly hate rhetoric is old.

Birdman was a ball washer little more. Bernie from the Weekend At offered more. It's not hindsight, it was something I wrote in my columns from the beginning of the season. Like maybe give some people credit instead of assuming they were late to their complaints.

Finally, regarding the $3M tags. We used part of the mini-mid to sign RJ to extension and part of it went.... to Mo Williams. GAG!

I think Nene/Dedmon was the MUCH smarter way to spend that money. And Speights would be better than the wet fart that Birdman provided us.

And there were a LOT of vet min PGs who could've outperformed a combo of MO Williams Nada and J-Mac's less than nothing.

Lot of issues before season began, and things he fixed during season were problems he created so not sure how much credit to apportion. Then again, Mozgov/Shump/Smith was like Slocumb for Varitek & Derrick Lowe, so I understand the love.

..on a mediocre Milwaukee team..

Talk about GAG!

It's worthwhile noting that his skill set also fit in much better with this team. Multiple shooters able to hit that high a % from three make this offense go. His biggest offensive weakness is the inability to create his own shot, and we've got two of best in the league at that.
