So long, David Griffin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's the thing. Compared to his peers, Griffin didn't find enough help.

The Spurs turn Dedmon into something useful. The Warriors McGee. Meanwhile we didn't get a single useful minute from one vet minimum player until Deron Williams was bought out.

I'm just not sure why some criticism can't be leveled at Griffin for that? I mean we have went an entire season, and now postseason, without a playable 7 footer. That's sad.

Griff seems to go after two types of players, vets that once were really good players in hopes they will regain a spark or young unproven players that have a high upside. He never seems to go after anything in the middle. I would love to see him fill out the end of the roster with Derrick Williams type players. Guys that are ready to be the 8th or 9th rotation player and with some work or some Lebron magic they might end up being our 5th or 6th best player.

In Griff's defense those guys in the middle are typically hard to acquire with only gift baskets to hand out.

This was the case most years but last summer that wasn't the case. So much money was thrown around quickly and it left alot of guys to take minimum contracts.

I feel like they have to be ready for that to happen again this year. It might become an ongoing trend because of the number of tanking teams and ones dedicated to young player development. These middle of the road players will suffer as teams won't be willing to give them much money because of lack of upside and hindering other players development.

He's sort of the Sandy Koufax of basketball. I mean really, how many gingers make it to the NBA?

And to circle back to Delly, and Shake's terrible "You Only LIke Him Cause He's White Like Scalibrine!" thing, that's awful.

Delly can actually play and contribute. He played 30+ minutes a game IN THE NBA FINALS. He then signed a 40 million dollar a year contract, not iwth us, the racists who like him cause he's white, but an entirely different team. So either Milwaukee also only liked because they, too, are racist, or because they thought he could play basketball at a high level. Which do you think it was?

So, there might be truth to Boston fans pining for Scalabrine because of his race. I honestly have no idea if he was just more than a fun mascot for the fans. Maybe they actually wanted him to play, too. But I do know comparing Delly to him is way off base. One guy has been a 20+ minute per game rotational player on 3 straight playoff teams (for three difference coaches, mind you, in case you thought maybe he had a racist coach) and signed a 40 million dollar a year deal.

The other guy didn't crack 20 minutes a game in any season in his entire career, and sure as shit didn't approach 30 minutes a game in any playoff series, let alone the NBA Finals.

Another thing on Lance....

Last night his on court behavior was embarrassing, and he got called out by George after in the media. Cavs may not have been interested in that particular circus this year with everything else going on.

will give you that, but what do you make of two "freak" accidents on consecutive years.... (while already enduring some kind of recurring hammy/calf thing in dallas?)
From a guy that broke his arm in a freak accident, f'ing up his career.

Yet I'm willing to bet you would've blasted Griff if we picked up another big around the deadline that sucked, and missed out on Bogut. You can't have it both ways. Bogut was, by far, the best big available--so you sign him. Anything else would be awful. Complaining about him getting injured is just silly.

I mean, obviously, you can't expect that, but the converse is, what, DG had inside info that Bogut would be amenable to the Cavs? because any other situation, that's a big chance we end up right where we are? I mean right? What happened with Joe Johnson? So I don't buy "well, we had Bogut locked up the whole time." But maybe they did and it will come out. Otherwise seems like an unwise risk that we are really paying for now.

Or, maybe, the crap that the fans think isn't the same information the front office has. This front office has been incredibly tight--not many leaks that I can remember. It's entirely possible that we knew we had Bogut in the bag. It's entirely possible that we never thought we had Joe Johnson in the bag.

Admittedly Dedmon was a bit of a diamond in the rough. But isn't that what a good GM does?

Stop reaching dude. You're making a fool of yourself. Next you're going to start complaining that we weren't the team to find Whiteside.

After seeing how Lance played everywhere else in the NBA not named Indiana, I'm perfectly fine not bringing him in.

He plays okay in Indiana, but is a headcase. Here, he'd be behind LBJ/JR/RJ/Korver/Shump in our wing rotation. Mediocre talent isn't worth the attitude and distraction.

First game I was thinking how he could have locked down the 2nd unit and he does have the skills and talent. He ffalls apart he is so immature though.

I see the ability--but he looked like hot garbage everywhere else in the NBA. Must be some Indiana thing with him.

I think it's the interchangeable skills him and Paul George have. The fact that if Lance is struggling PG can step in and take that role in almost any case. The bad part though is it's on PG to recognize that Lance is hurting the team in a certain way and switch on to that role. When Lance is playing well though it takes alot off of PGs shoulders, it's just questionable what Lance will do well from game to game.

I see we're deleting posts now because we wouldn't want the Delly narrative to be shaken. Really, me saying "easily riled" is worth deleting? Talk about over moderation.

I literally don't know what you're talking about here. First of all - Delly played 30+ minutes a game in the Finals because there was no one else. Nooo one else. This was not a play because of Delly's ability, it was the only play.

Easily riled.

Second - You said you were done with the race conversation but now you want to go back to it. Which is it? I'm white, I'm late 20s. I know my peers. I've sat with friends and strangers in arenas and bars in Cleveland, Portland, Nashville, Jacksonville, Seattle. And a common theme among suburban white guys, 20 to 95, is that they love the gritty white guy. Joe Jurevicious. Matthew Dellavedova. Charlie Frye.

That doesn't make them or you racist, but it's a contributing factor to how they view the player. These types of players are often given elite status among the fan base. Some of it deserved, a lot of it often not. Delly is one of those guys who is a good player, but gets put on another level for just being that lunchpale guy. My cousins loved Delly. Delly jerseys were everywhere in Cleveland for game 7 last year.

This is all not to say that I don't like Delly. I liked Delly too! But to hold him up as the guy and say "Griff really blew it!" is just slightly (a lot of slightly) absurd. Griffin has done a phenomenal job, and not paying Dellavedova in 2015 was not a dumb move at the time. Hindsight 20/20. Not paying him in 2016 for 10 mil per I also have no problem with.

You still have not confronted my main point from every post.

Even if you say Delly not being resigned was a bad move, if that is your biggest peeve with Griffin then Griffin has been doing a phenomenal job. Agree or no? If you agree, then why waste time harping on the Delly move? If you disagree, what else is it that you're upset with Griff for?

I think the bolded is where this discussion got heated. Your previous comments made it seem like you thought Delly sucked, and people who thought he wasn't garbage must only like him because he's white.

If we all agree that Delly provides some value--then we can debate about whether that's worth 41 million dollars in value this year (hint: it isn't).

From the people I know, the part they love is the gritty, not the white.

But when you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
