So Long Jordan Clarkson ( aka Chucky McJumperson)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
For what it's worth, Clarkson has the second best defensive numbers on the team, behind Korver, per 82 games, and was better in LA.

He absolutely could replace JR, and probably should, given Jr's struggles..

Wait a minute. You're trying to say that "not telling" an already naturally aggressive player to "be more aggressive, be yourself" versus telling him those things won't have a moderating effect on said aggression? And, are you saying it would be a hopeless or lost cause to ask him to consider doing some drive and kick, or to point out on tape the opportunities being lost because of his failure to do so on specific plays?

Are you suggesting the staff isn't already doing this? Because if you are, then what you're saying is the coaching staff isn't doing one of their basic tasks, and that seems preposterous.

Though I've seen crazier things on this board... What I'm really learning is people will pin whatever they can on coaching. It's amusing.

The only thing anyone has heard Lue tell players is to be aggressive, be yourself. If him or Drew is telling JC to look for the kick-out passes it would be big news here. Not to say anyone here including you or me knows what players are being coached to do.

Very interesting. He seems like a more natural fit with Lebron than Hood. Maybe it would make sense to make him the starting 2 if Korver doesn't comeback next year. Let Hood be featured off the bench as 6th man and goto guy instead?

I just see Jordan being much more efficient in the old JR mode than in "Go get it for yourself" mode.

It will be very interesting to see how this shakes out. They really like to end the game with Jordan so long as he is scoring. If he is rated that highly on D, makes sense he gets that end of the game nod. He definitely hustles out there.

I was so enthusiastic about him after his first two games against Boston and OKC... then after a month or two of being acclimated into our coaches 'system' he has regressed drastically. He's 1/2 the player he was the first two games for us.

And it sucks.

It's mostly shot selection. If he passed a little more and would take it to the hoop a little more for finish or a foul, he would be the best.

He probably has a tattoo of the ball on his hands so little can he bare to part from it.

Very annoying player, makes Kobe look a willing ball mover.

It's the coaching staff who have empowered him to be this way. They went and told him to be aggressive, which they tell all our guards. Clarkson took that as to put his head down and dominate the ball. Then they allow him to run the offense. He should be a secondary ball handler at all times. He plays well with LeBron on the floor and he has played well with Hill in the limited time they have gotten together. Calderon will defer to him too often and doesn't have the personality to take the ball out of his hands to calm him down.

I do think Clarkson will fit better if we make a trade in the off-season. It should get us another playmaker or ball handler to put Clarkson in a position to be much more consistent and less dominate with the ball.

Hard to blame the coaching staff when this is the same Clarkson that I've watched in LA the last couple of years. Playing with Kobe was the worst thing that happened to this dude: just not good enough to put the kind of shots he does which are in the Kobe/Kyrie difficulty range. It's a shame as he would be an All-star if had Calderon's basketball IQ

I agree dude is a shooting guard but where do you slot the guy going forward when you potentially have Hood and Cedi around? I guess you hope Cedi becomes more of a point forward/wing like his countryman Hedo?

I'd have Hood as our starting SG. Cedi can get minutes at both SG and SF. Clarkson can get minutes at both guard positions since LeBron is the point whenever he is on the floor. The problem we have right now with Clarkson is he runs the show when LeBron is off the floor. We need someone with a better PG mentality to do that and to keep Clarkson in check while still keeping everyone else involved. Our current bench rotation is full of guys who make bad decision when they are left to their own decision making.

I'd start Hood or Korver at SG. Clarkson has the ability to score two or three buckets consecutively on offense with the second unit. 3rd leading scorer from the bench in the last few years. Just gotta live with some of his bad decisions. I think Hood is a better shooter than Clarkson which is what the Cavs need at the #2.

Jordans really good though, and good defense too. He just needs to be more of a threat off the pass and the game will open up for him.

Kyrie Irving is a very similar player, but he is a much better shooter. Just gets tunnel vision. Really a shame because there is no reason on this team for him to go against a double team at all. Korver and Jr are often open when he does so.

Someone needs to sit this guy down in the off-season and show him how open teammates and make him watch tons of tape. He had been great at the end of games with LeBron and very good on d. He really struggles when he doesn't catch his rhythm. Feels to me like he just needs to see it go in once .

Staff isn’t waiting till the off season. It’s an ongoing process . Old habits hard to break. It’s improving and a good sign .

Anyone complaining about Clarkson’s shot hunting or defense, not really sure what you folks expected.

He’s the same guy he’s been his entire career.

He takes a lot of shots, he doesn’t really pass and he gets lost easily on D when he’s off the ball and in pick and roll.

But... he’s the one guy on the team outside of the two all-stars that I trust to get 13-15 points no matter how he’s defended. He’s very much in that Lou Williams, younger Jamal Crawford mold where you can’t really scheme him defensively from scoring. You just hope he’s not “on” that night.

On the bright side, he’s taking a lot fewer long 2s (only 12% of his shots here are from 16/23 feet compared to 15% in LA) and subsequently taking more threes (40% of his shots are threes compared to 30% in LA).

The good news for the Cavs is that Clarkson, seemingly because he jumps so far forward on his three point shot, is a DRAMATICALLY better shooter when wide open compared to any level of contest and he’s getting a lot more wide open threes here.

Is he going to sustain being a 40% three point shooter? Likely not, but the quality of looks he’s getting should keep his percentages well above his Laker averages.
