Nate Robinson and Isaiah Thomas all played more then 20mpgs as rookies, and before assuming a raw PG who primarily just knows how to attack can't play important minutes for a championship contender .... consider that Tony Parker started 72 games for the Spurs as a 19yr old rookie.

Earl Boykins, otoh, played in only 22 games as a rookie averaging 10mpg. Ty Lue himself saw only 15 games as a rookie averaging 12.5mpg.

We just don't know which way things will go for Kay until we see him against NBA level competition and give him (or them :O) some time to adjust to it.
