Sterling surrenders control of Clippers to Shelly (pg 35)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why would it matter? They have a team in LA and none in Seattle. Seattle has 3.5 million people in the region that the Blazers can't really hit. Not having the Clippers in LA will not impact the deal. Besides, a move would happen long after a contract is signed. The contracts don't stipulate that teams can't move.

because the TV contract in LA will make any tv deal in Seattle look like cow piss?

There will be a huge bidding war for those TV rights and they are paying for LA and not Seattle

I agree. And the Clippers are the new hot team in LA.

Not really. TV ratings for the Clippers are meh in LA. The Lakers will always be number one there. The local TV deal is not expected to be that great for the Clips. The arena deal isn't either. Ballmer will keep the team there for a bit, but expect a move in the next few years.

Ballmer is one of the guys working to finance a new Seattle arena. You think that it's a coincidence that he wanted to buy the first team that became available after he left the CEO gig at MS?

Seattle got what a 2 to 3 billion deal for 20 years.. meanwhile the dodgers got 7 to 8 billion for the same time frame. thats almost three times the amount.

In LA The Clippers will have three networks bidding against each other for broadcasting rights.

NY is at 1 billion in loca tv contracts. Lakers at 4 billion..

Clippers could certainly be looking at at quite a boost on their next contract.. especially with the fact that their winning and a new ownership group that would appear committed to winning.

You also have emerging mobile broadcaster looking to get into the market to the point Mark Cuban believes it will generate even more substantial broadcast revenue.

Boston is getting 65 million a year compared to Houstons 125 million a year..

Market matters

your comparing a city market slightly bigger than clevelands.. to la market.. Theres a huge difference.

I doubt it. Paul Allen will know him and likely not care if they move. He hasn't seen old Supersonics fans flocking to his team. The Buss family would probably be thrilled if the Clippers leave.

Ballmer will probably sit on the Clipper in LA for a few years, but Ballmer has been involved in backing a new Seattle arena. There is concern that that may fall apart if he does become the Clippers' owner. I'm not so sure. There are lease issues with the Staples Center to go with crummy TV deals for the Clippers. The move to Seattle and an attempt to reclaim the Supersonics name seem like they may happen. Ballmer will know Allen from Microsoft and I expect he can use Paul Allen to get support for a move. The recovery of the Hornets to Charlotte also may entice the NBA. This doesn't have the political issues of what has happened in Sacramento. LA does not need two teams and the Lakers would probably prefer to not share a venue anymore, especially after last year.

Betcha we'll see the Seattle Supersonics reborn in the next five years.

The league will require some sort of promise to approve the sale. They aren't going to directly punish clippers fans for what sterling did.

But the league was cool with punishing Seattle fans?

The only reason that the SuperSonics moved to OKC is that they could not approve an new arena deal, which was desperately needed.

The league didn't force Seattle to sell the team. They are forcing Sterling to sell. Forcing him to sell to an owner who will move the team is punishing the fans. The league shows in the Kings sale the preference is to sell to owners who will keep the team in their current location. The Clippers have a stadium lease, the Sacramento got a new stadium to keep their team, Seattle rejected a new stadium and lost their team.

That would be brutal to move the team. These fans have suffered under the worst owner for decades. Now they finally think they are rid of him and then the team gets moved on them? That would be flat out cruel...

To be fair, the proposed arena deal in Seattle was horrendous and had no chance of passing (they wanted to move the arena to Renton, if I remember correctly).

It just wouldn't make any sense either. The value of the team is based on being in the Los Angeles market, both in population base and television shares/ad revenue. It's just something fun for people to talk about but would never happen.

How many legit Clippers fans are there really? I mean I would wager that a significant amount of their "fans" since Chris Paul was traded to them, are Lakers fans who hopped off the bandwagon.

Yeah the Clips have definitely benefited from two things. Finally being good after decades, and the Lakers being the worst they have been possibly ever.

Will sell team...dismisses lawsuit.

thats that

Now he can go coffin shopping
