With the disappointing Cavs season coming to a close, and with the playoffs out of sight, I believe it is time to make this thread. If this is in the wrong place, then I apologize.

This could be one of the most eventful off-seasons in memory. With rumors of Cavs possibly making a big trade around the NBA Draft (Kevin Love?) and also with a bunch of cap space in one of most best FA as of yet.

Contracts coming off the books this summer:

- Luol Deng ($14,275,000)
- Spencer Hawes ($6,500,000)
- CJ Miles ($2,225,000)
TOTAL coming off this summer - $23,000,000

Right now, our draft pick stands at #9.

Notable Free Agents
- LeBron James
- Dwyane Wade
- Chris Bosh
- Carmelo Anthony
- Eric Bledsoe (RESTRICTED)
- Greg Monroe (RESTRICTED)
- Gordon Hayward (RESTRICTED)
- Pau Gasol
- Lance Stephenson
- Dirk Nowitzki
- Evan Turner (RESTRICTED)
- Kyle Lowry
- Avery Bradley (RESTRICTED)
- Paul Pierce
- Shawn Marion
- Isaiah Thomas (RESTRICTED)
- Marcin Gortat

What to watch for:

- Cavs offering max to Kyrie
- New GM
- Cavs possibly firing Mike Brown

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Everything I'm hearing tells me that Gilbert intends to keep Griffin as GM. I don't know how I feel about that...

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

If we trade for Kevin Love, I will be appalled. That being said, this should be an exciting and dramatic summer. Nice to see this thread up, and kind of disappointing too. What a shitty year.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

This summer is the most crucial in a long time. Should be a very active time with lots of rumors about players, coaching, and the GM.

This summer will go a long way toward answering the question of, "What is our ceiling?"

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

To contracts coming off the books this summer, I would add Alonzo Gee. Don't see them picking up that option.

To notable Free Agents, I would add Trevor Ariza. If we don't get LeBron and Deng leaves(both likely), Ariza might be our best FA option at SF

If we don't at least formally interview other candidates, then they will have lost my confidence.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

I have no problem keeping Griffin on as GM. He's a sought after name in NBA circles, and I like his philosophies.

Just seems like reports say that Gilbert might look for a bigger name just for the clout aspect.

Wouldn't mind seeing Chauncey Billups brought on as assistant GM or some capacity like that.

I'm super nervous about giving big money to Ariza. I watched him very closely this year (he was on my fantasy team) and he has been outstanding. Playing at a near all star level. And he did that with John Wall, Bradley Beal, and Marcin Gortat all having stellar years around him. He's the third or fourth option on any given night, yet put up huge numbers on a lot of nights and was top 12 in both 3pt made and 3pt%.

He sustained it all year long which is good, but his numbers and level of play are so far beyond his normal career numbers that I worry he was just going nuts in a contract year.

If he signs here and plays at the same level he has in Washington this year though, then it will be the steal of the century. I just smell a Larry Hughes situation.

Here's where I'm at:

Keep Kyrie, Dion, Delly. Re-sign CJ because he shouldn't cost too much and can actually shoot the ball. Hawes would be nice to keep but he won't be worth near the money he'll command. Let Deng walk (unless we could use him in a sign & trade) and trade everyone and everything else, even if it just lands us one good player. I'm not opposed to keeping Bennett, though. But everyone else should go. Not interested in bringing in another rookie one bit. Really hope we trade that draft pick.

Some great players that come to mind: Kevin Love, Derrick Favors, Chandler Parsons, Al Horford, Klay Thompson, Marc Gasol. I feel like these players aren't too untouchable for us to be able to swing a trade for. And I'd love to see any of them in a Cavs uniform. It is time for us to make a Harden type deal and swing for the fences. I also wouldn't mind us trading for Harrison Barnes, especially since he shouldn't be too difficult to get.

After that, try your best to sign the best free agents. Obviously LeBron will be target #1, and from there just go for whatever seems like the best fit. If Bosh opts out I'd love to see him in a Cavs uniform as well. Lance Stephenson would be great, although pricey. Greg Monroe would be a nice addition.

I'll change it when the time comes, but I do agree with you that they'll likely decline his option, never know though.

Not to start another controversy, but Windhorst believes the exact opposite.

Are we talking about basketball video games or what can actually happen?

Don't you pick up the option since it's not guaranteed and then he's a trade piece? Or am I doing it wrong?

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Unless they bring in some amazing GM with a proven track record, I'm happy sticking with Griffin and as theStereo mentioned adding someone like Billups in an assistant capacity. I just don't want the Cavs to do what the Browns did and change their entire management structures and philosophies year after year.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Andy, Tristan, Hopson, 2014 #1 and future Miami & Memphis picks (plus more possibly) will all be packaged for a soon-to-be expiring big. That's almost definite I'd think. (Not a fan of Love. I also think he's going to walk almost no matter where he ends up because of various things and that he bailed on Oregon for UCLA.)

I'd re-sign C.J. provided he wanted to play here and wouldn't take run away from a younger guy... so basically if we can't sign a decent wing and are stuck with only Karasev and Felix there.

I'd buy low on a Biyombo or Harrison Barnes if we didn't really have to give up anything of consequence.

Jack picked his game up towards the end of the year and I am no longer in a hurry to get rid of him for pennies on the dollar or just to get rid of his contract.

Pretty sure we end up with new starters at the 3, 4 and 5 from this year. Hopefully Bennett and Karasev are at least the primary backups at their positions.

In my wildest dreams we'd somehow end up with Aldridge and Asik at the 4 and 5 without giving up any of Kyrie, Dion, Delly, Jack, Karasev, or Bennett.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

We need to work to change the culture. Some fresh attitudes and new perspectives.

I think some of our guys have been around losing too much and even each other too long.

I'm open to a trade that involves a lot of moving pieces and parts.
