The Andre Drummond Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
sensational debut for Drummond and his nearly 13 minutes of non stop highlights.

I watched the Pistons game so I could see what this dude is all about. Seemed to struggle tonight.

Caught a lob for a layup as soon as he checked in and that was about it. Got pulled after 12 min. Dude runs like a deer though. I like that.

2 pts, 2 reb, 1 blk, 2 TO

And while an opening act filled with alley-oop dunks quickly raised hopes for a rookie that sunk to No. 9 in the lottery, he appears in for a similar battle in the pros. In a 108-79 drubbing at the hands of the Lakers on Sunday at Staples Center, Drummond was able to hang with Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol on a physical level; the rookie could often be seen giving up little ground to the muscle-bound Howard and doling out shoves to Gasol. But Howard easily faked Drummond out on two consecutive third-quarter post possessions, and any attempt at offense outside of putbacks went awry.

“He’s a baby,” Villanueva said, referring more to Drummond’s age than his demeanor. “Sometimes he just looks like he’s clueless out there on the court. He’s young, you have to take that into consideration. At the same time, you see that he hasn’t played basketball for a long time. But he’s so good. So if he keeps working, he’s gonna be an elite player in this league.”

....

While teammates will tell you that Drummond is without a doubt 19, there’s a calmness behind that giddy smile and maturity to his approach. He wants to listen. He wants to learn. He wants to be a part of something big, even if it makes racking up more mistakes than points right now.

“Sometimes I forgot how old I am,” Drummond said. “People will ask, ‘How old are you?’ and it takes me forever to answer.

That last quote there is a really strange one.

Although his stat line wasn't that great against the Lakers, Drummond did make a lot of positive plays vs much more accomplished NBA vets in Gasol and Howard. Howard didn't always have his way with Drummond like he did with Monroe. Monroe literally got raped against Howard. I think he was like 8 for 9 in the first half with Monroe guarding him most of the time. In the 2nd half, there was a play where Howard posted up Drummond and couldn't body him under the basket. Howard got the ball, spun around his left side and Drummond slid his feet fast enough and got a charge called. I remember Howard making the same move vs Monroe and got an easy bucket. Drummond just needs more playing time. I have no idea why Detroit is playing Maxiell so much. He is what he is but let Drummond learn and get comfortable out there. But this game against the Lakers against, arguably the best front court in the NBA, has surely given him much needed confidence. Maybe we'll see a better stat line in his next game but watching him play, you can see flashes....

Lakers had a 25 point lead when howard spent some time with Drummond.

Side point...JJ Hickson looked pretty damn good against Howard. Howard was getting shots over him, but JJ was denying the ball and bodying him up about as well as you could have expected. I've been impressed with JJ so far.

Great job acting like a little bitch.

To be fair, if he would have dominated, some here would be doing the same thing, only obviously praising him..

that at that point of the game howard had better things to do than mess with little bitches

Ahh ok. So Howard was just playing around and Drummond is a bitch. I didn't know your hatred for Drummond was that deep lol. Were you the one that compared him to that high school kid playing in Japan btw?
