The Andre Drummond Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was on the record saying that Drummond would got #2 and most everyone thought I was insane. We shall see but I also said that Michael Jordan will sniff out this years bust so if he doesn't draft Drummond.....we should take him if he's still available at 4 and I was so pumped that we got a shot until......Dion better become a beast cause you're looking at a beast in the making in Drummond. The naysayers said he only shot 29% from the free throw line (even though his high school FT % wasn't that bad). They said he lied about his vertical and thus questioned his morality because he only had a "measured" 33.5 inch vertical. They compared him to Kwame, Diop, Thabeet, and even a no-named kid playing in Japan just so they can solidify their judgement of the kid. Even though those that know him, pointed out that he was a SUPERIOR athlete to any of those stiffs. There are more excuses but the list is long and we'll detail it later lol.

Now they're saying "calm the F down cause it's only the pre-season". Ok, we'll wait and see. But for the naysayers, start warming up your crows for dinner.

lol

this was my favorite criticism and it wasn't close. couldn't believe people would let that be a factor when talking about such a hugely important decision.

It's not like Andre refused to work out for teams like someone *coughs*. If they wanted to measure his vertical, all the had to do was bring him in and ask him to jump.

Anyway, the main complaint with Andre was his attitude ... some tried to turn that in to more than I think it is, but we'll have to see if and how it manifests. Some guys are just so good it hardly matters if they're not giving 110% over 365.

ohhhh! So happy, but mostly sad that I found this thread..... :)

Always thought the attitude and work ethic questions about Drummond were very overrated. Turned out that everything has pointed to him working very hard since the end of the college season. I'm all for emphasizing character when considering draft prospects but I really didn't see that being an issue with Drummond either.
One could easily raise questions about a player who went to 4 different high schools, sulked and wanted to transfer after his very poor freshman season and who pulled out of the pre-draft camp at the last minute and refused to meet and workout for any teams. Cavs had no problem drafting that player and most fans don't have any issue with it.

Im seeing alot of posters brandishing grant for not taking Drummond when they themselves were advocating T robinson at draft time.

I remember alot of Barnes lovers (dodged that bullet), and a ton of people who wanted MKG (including me) because we all thought the Cats were going to draft someone else. I personally wanted Drummond from the start of the 2011 draft when we got Kyrie, but I didn't think we would be in a position to get he #1 overall pick (or at least I thought he was going to be). When he fell to four in 2012 I was like YES, and then Stern said with the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NBA entry draft the Cleveland Cavaliers select... Dion Whathefuckhappenedhere. I was stunned, shocked, and intrigued. Since I knew literally almost nothing of Waiters I reserved judgement.

The next few days there were tons of articles raving about Dion, comparisons to Wade, Westbrook, etc. Well here it is a couple of days before the season starts and I still want Andre Drummond. Not only do I want Drummond, but in an even more piss me off turn of events I keep replaying in my head that if we had lost the coin toss with NOH that we would be sitting with back to back #1 overall picks, and a franchise point guard and power forward/center. Well with Drummond at 4 we still could have had that, but no we went with an undersized two guard.

Ok I feel better now.

Just watched this video of Drummond. Showing Flashes of Greatness.

Long, but some great plays.

P.S: Guess I'll go watch the Waiters one now so I don't feel bad.

Who are these posters you speak of? I was on the record saying we should draft Drummond if he fell into our laps.

He lied about jumping 40"! He only has a 33.5" vertical! He only did it against college players! He's the next Diop, Kwame, Thabeet, Ryan Hollins, Dan Gadzuric, etc....

I'm not sure that I said no to Drummond unequivocally, but I had serious concerns about him. He looked really awful at time in college, and never dominated. He has started the preseason nicely which is a good sign, but alot is yet to be determined with him -- we'll see how it works out. It's obviously far too early to make any kind of judgement.

The fucking athleticsm is crazy. Those dipsy doo layups is guard like and he does not try to dunk everything and shows a good touch from close range. WTF is Grant thinking not taking this kid with the lack of major talent on this team? Dion has not shown shit that he deserves to be picked 4th. What we got was an undersized shooting guard who really can't shoot consistently.

I want Danny Ferry and Mike Brown back!!!!

It is far too early, yes. But flashes of greatness is there with Drummond. Dion, on the other hand, is shitting.
