THE NBA CBA WATCH (LOCKOUT IS OVER / OWNERS WIN)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He has made it well known that he will not sign an extension unless he was traded to Knicks.

That's demanding a trade to the Knicks. You don't always have to come up and say "Hey, trade me to the Knicks", this is just as effective.

Melo forced his way out of Denver to the Knicks. That is a fact regardless of how you try to spin it.

I'm stating the facts as they were made known to the public. You're the one trying to spin it in to what you want it to mean.

Melo was under no commitment to extend with anyone. Like I said, when asked who he'd consider signing with as a free-agent he always rattled off a number of teams that included Denver.

He never demanded a trade. He never forced a trade. He wasn't refusing to play for Denver. He wasn't playing like crap.

It was Denver's choice to deal him. Period.

I've given it some sober thoguht and now I don't think either of us are right Jon. I think the way that you give the home team the advantage is through the raises. If the raises are 10% for the home team and only 2.5% for other potential suitors then I think the advantage becomes "real".

It doesn't matter how it's done ... fact is Bird rights have been greatly weakened over the years.

Birdy's proposal is interesting as it would have the side effect of making teams with multiple stars extremely expensive. That'd help the small market teams, but not so much the NBA or the median salary players.

Nobody wants the Lakers' garbage, and they'll find this out soon enough. The Lakers see that they are beginning to fade and are panicking, trying to throw around their only good players, none of whom are particularly young, and parlay them into young superstars. Amusing, to say the least.

The sound they make rattling their cage as the guard changes in the west should be fun to hear. Unfortunately, free agency 2012 will probably solve all their issues unless Howard and Paul find new homes during the season.

ps: Fuck Bynum. Nobody wants this guy, come on. I wouldn't trade a medium pizza for him let alone my young superstar. There will be a dozen better offers for both DH12 and CP3.

Just wait. If Howard is still with Orlando when the season starts, all it will take is a nice 20-10 stretch from Bynum (which he is capable of), and suddenly Dwight will be a Laker. Of course, about a week after the trade Bynum will go down for the year with a knee injury, but it will be too late.

(I wouldn't trade for him either, but we all know how NBA Gm's operate)

How is making the fact he wouldn't sign with anyone but the Knicks public, not forcing a trade?

Denver either had to let him go at the end of the season or get some assets for him. That's not a hard decision is it now?

Yes, he hasn't publicly demanded a trade, yet he forced Denver into trading him to the Knicks. All other rumors were shot down because he wouldn't sign with anyone but the Knicks.

Keep fooling yourself if you wish. Melo didn't demand a trade. He had no reason to demand a trade. He was going to get what he wanted one way or another. If the Nuggets chose to facilitate that to their own benefit ... good for them.

Semantics. He may not have "demanded" a trade, but he basically "forced" it. Because he knew Denver would do what's best for them if he didn't want to play there. Same diff to me...

Jon, this just isn't true. We all witnessed the numerous news reports that unfolded as Melo's desire's to get traded turned into specific demands as to where he wanted to be traded to and with the specific team he was willing to sign an extension. We also witnessed the Nets go out of their way to try and entice Melo, and saw them turned down - not by Denver, but by Carmelo Anthony. He was traded to the New York Knicks, the team he wanted to play for, not by chance - but by force.

Melo may have been a bitch throughout the process, but at least he didn't F his team in the A like LeBron did to us. All we got in the trade was the potential for STI's, at least Denver convinced NYK to use a condom.

I'm not arguing that he didn't make his wishes known. His choice to extend his contract or go in to free agency and sign with whoever he wanted was always his and his alone. But that's not the same thing as demanding a trade - and force was not involved.

Just a desire on Denver's part to get something beyond the rest of the season out of Melo. Contractually they were owed nothing more, but some fans can't seem to grasp that.

no. not trading carmello is akin to cutting off your nose to spite your face. denver had two choices. don't trade him, let him walk for nothing, and watch him bring your team down as he had been doing until the point of trade. or, get something in return because he wanted out of denver months before his contract was over.

it's not really a choice at all for any team that isn't run by isiah thomas. trying to argue otherwise is dumb, or being contrary for the sake of arguing.

So... pretty much the same choices they had since they signed him as a rookie?

Even with the Knicks, they were only +0.9 with him on the floor .vs. off.

nice attempt at diversion. bottom line, denver was 18-7 after the trade. carmello was bringing the team down with poor play to force his way out. they had no choice but to trade him.

Melo has always been drastically over-rated as most "scorers" are, but in his defense he did have simultaneous surgeries on his left knee and elbow after the season. That Denver's play would pick up after trading him is no surprise to me.

One league official says there are seven NBA teams that have two stretches of 5 games in 6 nights this season. Good luck with that.

That's brutal, but hope one is us. :p
