The new Beebs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We next man up... we got to make a few decisions on the 21 draftees anyways since they are rule 5 eligible... They will start getting their chances...
That's all fine and well but 1. There goes our ace 2. There goes a possible major trade chip

Smart move by Biebs, get it done now so he can pitch some next season as he rebuilds his value.

My only issue was he was in the clubhouse for several weeks with Allen and Bibee, really don't want them to catch this too. Gavin has been out so hopefully he wasn't exposed.

I haven’t been able to find any studies on this by googling, but has there been published data on the rate of pitching arm injuries before and after the pitch clock in the minors? Seems like these last two years have been pretty brutal with arm injuries although it seems that velocity still is much more of a factor than rest between pitches.

3 main issues, in my uneducated mind.

1. Everyone is fighting to add velo and spin. There is only so hard the human body is capable of throwing and we’re asking guys to push that limit.

2. Youth levels and HS levels are getting too professionalized. Heavy emphasis on performance vs development has kids playing 1 sport, throwing all year, and throwing pitches they shouldn’t be throwing at a young age while their body is still developing. Has been an issue for a few decades now.

3. A change in operating procedure when dealing with certain injuries. 5-10 years ago this is an injury guys pitched through if it didn’t cause dips in performance. Many guys in the past have pitched a decade plus with UCL injuries causing soreness, but their stuff was still there so they just managed the pain. You can look at a scan of a perfectly “healthy” pitcher who has never had an elbow injury in their life and their elbow will look disgusting compared to your average Joe Schmo. Throwing overhand is not a natural movement, there is a ton of risk involved every time you do it.

Pay the man Dolan.

So i think the Guardians break even, they didnt sign him long term which is good for Guardians but they get nothing for him in trade.

That said, in your guess, does this help or hurt him staying with Cleveland long term? I personally think his value is obviously lower but the Guardians dont wantt to make that huge of a risk with a bigish contract.

This absolutely on the money...something I've been saying for years...and something I fought against when I was teaching/coaching youth baseball.

You can't have adults, let alone kids, focusing on adding velocity and what is now called spin rate without endangering elbows and shoulders.

A SP misses much of a season due to damage to his elbow. He spends his off season at Driveline, increasing his velocity and working on improving
his off speed stuff. What could possibly go wrong?

If they had traded him after his first or second start this season, I suspect the trade would have been nullified with the requisite medical checks.
Yeah one or two starts wasnt enough. If he was feeling pain, maybe he could have pitched through it all year and come July a team would have overlooked all that in his physicals and taken him for two-three months just to make a run.

Wow... Shane Bieber bet on himself and lost. Do you still slap a QO on him?

Maybe this will motivate Biebee, Williams or even Allen to get an extension done..

This one hurts. Damn.

We have to remember there is a scheduled off day this coming Thursday AND the availability of guys in the minors.
Enright pitched 2 innings on friday night.

Yeah, I figured that was the reasoning since they wanted the fresher arm in a sense... Plus he is already on the 40 man, so it gives them more time to plan and instead of doing a knee-jerk type of move... (Though Enright I feel like, should get a shot so it's not too much of a knee-jerk).

Stop. This team has massive depth.

Bibee
Williams (coming back soon)
Sticks
Allen
5th starter TBD (guessing cookie for now)

80%+ of MLB teams would die for this rotation
Sticks will get hurt. He always does

Dion gave up 5R 1ER in a solid 2nd start overall in AAA and Nikhazy had 5 no hit innings with 2BB 5K in AA as a repeater... This is your current depth with potential. Keep an eye on em.
