The Rise of Skywalker spoilers thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dave Filoni would'v been better, but maybe Filoni is getting some sort of promotion.

Favreau's good and I think a live action SW show could be great. If I had any faith in Lucasfilm being able to handle multiple projects, I'd really be excited.

The series finale of Star Wars Rebels was great.

A lot of good stuff for them to mine for Episode IX if they can be bothered. It seems obvious that Rey should be the daughter of Ezra Bridger and Sabine.

Plus, Ashoka Tano is confirmed to be alive after the Battle of Endor (and has evidently gone through the transformation of becoming the Ashoka the White).
Spoilers please. Huge fan of Clone Wars, never really got into Rebels

The bare-bones of it is Ezra resists the Emperor's temptations, the rest of the crew activates the planetary shields to deflect bombardment by Thrawn's fleet. Ezra fights his way to the bridge of Thrawn's ship as the Purgill, whom Ezra called for help, decimate the Imperial Fleet. The Purgill grab Thrawn's ship, destroy the bridge and take the ship to the Unknown Regions.

Flash foward 10 years. The rest of the crew remained to fight in the Rebellion. Hera, Sabine, Rex at all fought at Endor (you see the Ghost at the battle of Scariff in Rogue One). With the war over, Sabine realizes that Ezra's sacrifice wasn't just one-sided and she and Ashoka Tano leave for the Unknown Regions to search for Ezra and bring him back to the planet he gave up everything to save.

It establishes going into the new Trilogy that Ezra is still likely alive, Sabine alive, and more importantly Ashoka Tano is alive; a very powerful force user. Ezra and Sabine are both young and would only be in their early 50s by Force Awakens. Prime candidates to be Rey's parents.

Ezra’s Double Sacrifice

In the finale, Ezra is tested when a disguised Palpatine (Ian Diarmid returns) tempts him with a happier alternate life, one in which his parents are still alive and waiting to welcome him. Knowing that his fellow rebels need him, Ezra turns his back on the tantalizing image, thus causing Palpatine to reveal his true face.

“Ezra has seen him as evil and so evil has to be deceptive too,” said Filoni. “To challenge Ezra, he appears as this pleasant person [appears as he does prior to his duel with Mace Windu]. You can figure out technically how he does that with old holograms or whatever. What’s important is this is, this is the way he deceives you: Oh look, he’s not so bad. He’s this kindly old grandfather-looking guy, and that makes you want to trust him a little more, trust a little more.

“The whole trick there is that the emperor hears what Ezra desires most in the world between worlds. When he says, ‘Sometimes I wish my life was different. Sometimes I wish I could just be with my mom and dad,’ because when you’re pressed into difficult choices, your gut reaction is not wrong… That’s just the burden of being a hero and you have to be careful [if] that wish is given or granted to you.”

He also knew that in working with the Purrgil, he would have to stay with them when they left, and that left his friends unsure about his ultimate fate. Giving up the family he’d built for himself was no small sacrifice.

[Ezra smashes the windows on the bridge of Grand Admiral Thrawn's star-destroyer as the Purgill grab the ship and jump into hyperspace, killing Thrawn and everyone else present presumably]

Last Jedi is the only Star Wars film I saw only once in the theater.

And the only one I am not purchasing for my film collection.

Still insane how much hate this movie gets. Best non-OT Star Wars film for me.

Same. It was an abomination. I don't even really view it as a Star Wars movie; it just used the name and a couple old characters. This whole trilogy just feels like a shitty spin-off now.

I'm not going that far, I don't know where it ranks but I was definitely a little let down by this one. That said I agree it gets too much hate, but what do you expect? :chuckle: People were never going to like these new movies no matter what, IMO. Star Wars is just too close to a lot of people. Spin offs like Rogue One that don't fuck with old beloved characters are gonna fare fine as long as they are decent, but Ep 7, 8, and 9 were never gonna be well received. Everyone has this "vision" for what these movies were gonna look like and few if any people were going to have that matched.

Or we were just expecting, you know a coherent storyline where Leia doesn’t float in space, Han isn’t done dirty, and Luke doesn’t attempt to murder a child. Oh and no milk straight from the udder.

I wasn't confused by this movie.

where Leia doesn’t float in space,

That was the one thing I was like "what?" about, but the movie got better and better after that to me.

Han isn’t done dirty,

Are we complaining about The Force Awakens now?

and Luke doesn’t attempt to murder a child.

Did you... watch the whole movie?

Oh and no milk straight from the udder.

Dumb complaint. Milk is best straight from the udder.

I shouldn't have said anything, but I feel compelled with the way people shit on it as if it's just objectively bad. It's a really good movie, especially with some of the dumb ideas it was handed by TFA.

EDIT: For the record, I TOTALLY get it if you didn't like the movie. It's Star Wars, we all have different expectations and feel strongly about how it should be handled. But when people try to use this movie to elevate the prequels it just crosses into absurd territory.

There were just way too many stupid scenes and stupid plot lines/plot holes in TLJ. It was awful.

Bro Force Awakens was shit too. These two have been garbage.

And yes I did watch the entire movie. It’s just extremely out of character for Luke fucking Skywalker to go murder a child and then hide himself from the galaxy.

The movie didn’t keep on getting better and better, if it did, the whole casino shit wouldn’t have happened.

By the way, the prequels (at least episode 2 and 3) were a lot fucking better

Star Wars is interesting. A lot of people that loved The Force Awakens hated Last Jedi. But I also get not liking any of the new stuff. Personally, I think all the new movies are way better than the prequels but don't beat the originals, cause how could you?

But he didn't murder a child...?

I'm in the minority in really enjoying the casino stuff. In terms of concept it was somewhat prequelly because it was something different, but thematically it made way more sense to me than most of the stuff you'd see in the prequels.

By the way, the prequels (at least episode 2 and 3) were a lot fucking better

LOL. Clearly it'd be too much to get into, but I obviously disagree.

Also, Phantom Menace might be my favorite prequel. It's a dumb movie, but holds the most nostalgia points for me, and the duel/death of Qui-Gon is pretty good. But in terms of action sequences they all have some fun stuff.

We obviously we wanted half the movie to be a spaceship slowly running out of fuel, and rather than tell everybody the obvious and basic solution, leadership needlessly kept everyone in the dark so a few rogue 'rebels' could screw everything up and get dozens of extra people killed.

But it's worth it because they freed those horses or whatever they hell they were.
